Difficult choice: laser mouse or optical?

It would seem that a computer mouse is not the most important component of the entire computer as a whole, but no, without it, working for a PC turns into a very difficult, non-fun activity. World brands A4Tech, Logitech, Defender are constantly fighting each other for the creation of the best computer mouse in the world. That is why today various types of computer mice are constantly undergoing changes for the better. If you constantly monitor all the latest in the market of computer mice, and at the same time buy at least one of the latest models, you can simply be left without money.

Surely many of you remember the first mice that recognized movements and coordinates thanks to the rubber ball inside. Everything old is always replaced with a new one, which is why today less and less often people remember mechanical manipulators. The optical mouse replaced the mechanical one, incorporating all of its best qualities. However, not even a few years passed, and the laser mouse was already knocking on the door, the latest development of various companies manufacturing input devices.

Main choice: laser mouse or optical?

While the guys from A4Tech have not yet come up with a new best principle for recognizing coordinates with a mouse, each user of a computer, laptop or netbook has a choice: a laser mouse or an optical one. That is why it is necessary to understand the advantages and disadvantages of a laser and optical mouse in order to not experience any difficulties in the future when using one of the presented options.

Undoubtedly, a computer mouse, in addition to moving the cursor on the screen, has two important features - accuracy and speed. These words will be confirmed by any professional gamer. In the race for accuracy, the mechanical manipulator has no chance of fighting new input devices. Therefore, whether it be a laser mouse or an optical mouse , they have far gone in the race for accuracy from a mechanical mouse.

The principle of operation of both types of mice is the same: the sensor takes a photo of the surface, and the chip inside the mouse analyzes this photo and determines the coordinates. During the operation of the optical, as well as the laser mouse, the surface below the manipulator is highlighted. This is done for a better and more accurate shot, which will be made by a special reading element, only the LEDs work in the optical mouse, while the laser itself works in the laser. By the way, the laser illuminates the readable surface better, as a result of which the image quality of the laser image is much sharper than that of the LED. It turns out that the laser mouse is more accurate than the optical one, because the laser is several times more accurate than the LED and does not distort the read image. This is the so-called slight difference between a laser mouse and an optical one.

Nevertheless, in addition to accuracy, resolution and speed are very important in a good manipulator. Resolution is measured in units called dpi (in Russian - dots per inch). Again, a laser mouse has a resolution of up to two thousand, while an optical mouse boasts only one thousand two hundred dpi. In truth, the most suitable and convenient extension for a pleasant mouse experience is eight hundred dots per inch, but manufacturers of computer manipulators simply use these indicators as a small marketing ploy. If you wish, the resolution of the mouse can be adjusted in the control panel, and then with your own hands you will experience all the pros and cons of the high resolution of the manipulator.

Optical mice come in two PS / 2 and USB interfaces, while laser mice come with USB only. USB technology is narrower and data transfer rates may be lower than PS / 2. Therefore, the cursor will not move around the screen so smoothly.

Now that you’ve become more familiar with input devices, try to determine if a laser or optical mouse is better for you, and be sure to try both options when buying.
