A bit of history
In 1930, the Siberian Mining Institute was opened in the city of Irkutsk, which began to train specialists for the gold mining industry. After 8 years, its name changes. And it becomes mining and metallurgical, and after 22 years - polytechnic. Initially, there were only 2 faculties in the structure of the university. Gradually, new areas of training were opened: construction, chemical-technological, exploration, engineering and mechanical faculties. The training of professional engineers has begun.
In the 70s, the institute graduated specialists in 39 different profiles. At the same time, a campus was built with a huge main building, a stadium and dormitories. At the end of the 20th century, the university organized faculties of humanitarian specialties, due to which the institution became known as the university. The university became the largest in Eastern Siberia, about 15 thousand students studied in its walls. The university that we know now has changed a bit. Now the university is proudly called "National Research Irkutsk Technical University."
