To check the car for breakdowns, there are many types of diagnostic manipulations, among which there are also suspension diagnostics. A regular check will make the operation of your car the most secure and protect against many troubles. The frequency with which it is necessary to diagnose each vehicle is individual. A major role is played by the vehicle’s mileage, the conditions in which the car is used (especially local reliefs and roads), as well as the nature of driving that is inherent in the car owner.
How is the car suspension diagnostics
There are several types of this procedure. Each of them is good in its own way. Try several or each one at a time, and then decide which one you like best.
1. Suspension diagnostics on the backlash detector
In this way, the car’s suspension is diagnosed when you feel that the car is clearly “driving” on the road. That is, when picking up speed, braking or simply
uniform movement, the car pulls in one direction or the other. In this case, various knocks are often heard in the car. Suspension diagnostics is that the car is placed on a platform that completely simulates an uneven road. There is an imitation of car movement. During the diagnosis, the backlash of all parts that are involved in the suspension system is detected.
2. Another type of check is computer
Suspension computer diagnostics are very high quality work, but they
Not applicable to all vehicles. Only machines equipped with an electronic control system can use this type of test. Such a diagnosis occurs by reading data from various sensors, so deviations from the factory parameters are detected.
3. Do-it-yourself suspension diagnostics
This method of verification has come down to us since the time of the Lada and Muscovites. Our grandfathers also used this diagnostic method. It consists in the fact that you need to swing the car body. After the machine is released, 1.5 jumps should occur spontaneously: all the way up, and then down to half. At the same time, experienced specialists could by ear determine if there are any knocks and what kind of problems could lead to this. Alas, in our time, such diagnostics are not suitable for modern cars.
4. Another type of test is acoustic.
Acoustic diagnostics is longer in terms of time than, for example, diagnostics on a backlash detector, and takes from an hour to four. Such a diagnosis occurs with the help of four sensors, which make up one device and are connected to the power supply, which is located in the car at this time. They are mounted on the suspension of the car. Next, the car is set in motion. The specialist who carries out the diagnostics sits in the car at this time and alternately turns on one sensor or the other, reading information and determining which part is out of order. As a rule, one trip is not enough to fully diagnose a malfunction - you need two or three of them.
