Temple of the Icon of the Mother of God "Sovereign" in Chertanov and its history

The ways of the Lord are inscrutable, and only He himself knows how, how to give wonderful news about himself, to send people hope in troubles and comfort in sorrows. This happens in different ways: through meeting with wise and kind people, reading spiritual books or prophetic visions.

The first mention of the icon

The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Sovereign” in Chertanov (the city of Moscow) is quite “young” by today's standards, exists a little over a decade. He became famous thanks to the miraculous image, the very appearance of which people can not be called otherwise than the Grace of the Lord. In February 1917, a certain peasant woman, a simple but pious woman named Evdokia Andrianova, began to dream strange dreams. It was as if a certain voice told her that there was an icon in Kolomenskoye, Moscow Region. It is large in size, black in color. And it should be given to people to “make red” so that everyone can pray. The first woman did not quite guess the dream, although she felt its mystical significance. The temple of the Icon of the Mother of God "Sovereign" (in Chertanov) then, of course, did not exist yet. But it was from these dreams that history, in various ways, began to bring closer events that would lead to its construction. In the second vision of Andrianova, a beautifully majestic woman appeared in whom she recognized the Virgin Mary. The Mother of God was in the white church and repeated her instructions. Not daring to oppose the Higher Will, Evdokia went to Kolomenskoye and told the abbot about everything.

The priest, along with Andrianova, began to examine all the ancient images of the Mother of God on the iconostasis. But not one looked like the one she had dreamed of. Then, from the basement of the church, a large old icon was found there long ago, covered with a layer of dust. When it was put in order, then the priest, and Eudokia, and the guard of the house of God froze in holy awe. Before them in all its glory and solemnity the image of the Mother of God in the image of the Queen of Heaven shone. She sat on the throne of heaven, in royal robes, in a crown, with a scepter and power. On her lap, Mother held the Baby blessing the people. It was this image that subsequently adorned the temple of the Icon of the Mother of God “Sovereign” in Chertanov. After all, he was seen in the prophetic dreams of Evdokia!

The second life of the icon

The rumor of a miraculous discovery instantly spread not only around Moscow, but also spread far beyond the region. Pious pilgrims from all over Mother Russia came to Kolomenskoye, asking the Intercessor for their needs, finding support in their sorrows and sorrows. During the years of Soviet power, as an historical value, the image was given for preservation to the funds of the Moscow Diocese, and then to the State Historical Museum. In the 90s, when the people again turned to face Christ, the icon again returned to Kolomenskoye. And in the fall of 2001, a wooden church of the icon of the Mother of God “Sovereign” was built in Chertanov. At present, a permanent, already stone temple has been erected nearby.
