Despite the rather long period of use as a flooring, linoleum is still very popular to this day. It is durable enough, hygienic, beautiful, and does not require much care. Positive properties are also low thermal conductivity and good soundproofing qualities. Since even a novice in repair cases can lay linoleum , we suggest that you familiarize yourself with a simple and fairly detailed instruction.
As we have already said, its strength characteristics are quite high, they are not much inferior to those of the same laminate or carpet. If we talk about the term of operation, then modern varieties rarely serve less than a dozen years, and manufacturers provide individual brands with a guarantee up to 15-20 years! In a word, before
laying linoleum, it would be nice to familiarize yourself in detail with the assortment of outlets closest to you.
The easiest way to lay it under the baseboard. Generally speaking, before starting work, they are all completely removed, and after installation they return to their places and provide additional reliability for fixing the floor covering.
The styling itself is of two types:
- Free when adhesives are not used.
- Glue.
Before laying linoleum in a free way, you need to carefully prepare the rough floor: wash, clean from debris, remove the protruding hats of nails and align the bulging boards. After this, linoleum is spread out and left for one day (for the purpose of expansion).
After that, you can begin to carefully trim the material, leaving a space between it and the wall, the width of which should be at least 5-7 millimeters. After leveling and straightening the floor covering, it is carefully fixed with the help of baseboards.
Note, before laying linoleum in this way, it is necessary to reliably close the cracks under the baseboards, as constant temperature fluctuations and the difference in air humidity negatively affect the state of its surface.
Of course, laying using adhesives is much more durable. As in the case with the previous method, before working, you need to carefully prepare the rough surface. When cutting strips of linoleum, a margin should be left (at least 6-7 cm).
After lubricating the wrong side of the material with glue, it is aged for impregnation for at least 10 minutes, after which it is applied to the floor and rolled with a roller.
Important! Before laying linoleum on the glue with your own hands, you need to measure everything very carefully, since tearing off already grabbed material is not only difficult, but also dangerous - you can ruin everything.
To completely remove air from under the adhesive flooring, you need to carefully smooth the material from the middle to the edges. If overlapping is required, then adjacent strips should go one on top of another about 2-3 cm.
After three days, the edges using a clerical knife are carefully trimmed. Since it is easiest to lay linoleum on plywood with the adhesive method, we recommend that before starting work, level the floor with its use.
