What to do if the computer turns on and immediately turns off

More than a dozen years have passed since computer technology became available to all segments of the population. Now everyone can buy a computer: the abundance of specialized stores allows you to choose the best model, and the availability of educational literature - to understand the basics of work. Despite this, owners of computers and even laptops sometimes have situations when they have to resort to the services of specialists who can fix various malfunctions. And yet, it is much more convenient not to depend on the help of third-party people, but to be able to diagnose possible problems yourself and be able to restore the working capacity of the equipment. That is why today we will consider why the computer turns on and off immediately. This is one of the common problems that a fairly wide circle of users sometimes have to deal with.

If the computer turns on and immediately turns off, then in the interval between this, the speaker connected to the board usually emits a series of intermittent signals. There are special tables by which, knowing the order of the signals, you can determine the cause of the failure. Otherwise, the search is performed on indirect grounds.

Before starting to find out the reasons, it is necessary to disconnect all auxiliary peripherals from the board: a hard drive, a CD-ROM drive, an audio adapter, all devices connected to the ports (except the keyboard), a body cable (wires to the Power, Reset button, etc.). In addition, the power wire should remain alone - only to the motherboard, turn off the remaining branches.

Perform a test inclusion. To do this, we close two Power pins on the board with a small screwdriver. Problem still exists? Read on.

If the computer turns on and immediately turns off, you need to check the BIOS settings. Of course, this is only possible if enough time elapses between switching on and off. Many boards have a setting item that automatically turns off the computer in one of two situations: the CPU fan does not rotate (faulty), the processor temperature has reached the set limit. Recall the steps to enter the BIOS: immediately after turning on the computer, you often need to press the DEL key.

We should not forget about the possibility of resetting BIOS (this is the next step, if the previous one did not give results). On the motherboard there are special pins signed "Clear CMOS". We find them directly on the board or first in the instructions, and then close the contacts to reset to factory settings.

The next reason the computer shuts down immediately is a problem with a discrete graphics card. Processors of modern graphics solutions sometimes fail: it’s enough to recall the β€œdump” of NVidia graphics cards. We remove the video card from the connector and turn on the computer without it. If at the same time spontaneous shutdown does not occur, then the "culprit" is defined. It is necessary to re-insert it into the connector and check the operability, and based on the results, decide whether to leave or purchase a new one.

The computer shows signs of life - it pierces the speaker piercingly, which means there is a chance to get by with "little blood", since the central processor and motherboard are intact.

If after turning on the computer turns off, then you need to leave only one memory module. You can also try moving it to another slot.

The last reason why the computer turns on and off immediately is because the motherboard itself is malfunctioning. Very often, when connecting expansion cards (for example, audio and video adapters), the motherboard flexes very much, and the soldering to the conductive tracks is broken on the elements. Owners of boards of the old generation (and budget new ones) over time encounter natural damage to electrolytic capacitors - those very small barrels. If this happens, then the behavior of the board depends on the circuit in which the capacitor is located: the computer can turn off both instantly and after a while.

A cooling fan is located in the power supply; if it stops working, the overheat protection circuit cuts off the power supply. Indirect reason: excessive number of powerful components connected to the computer.

Summarize:

- disconnect all unnecessary from the board;

- check the BIOS, reset the settings;

- we localize a hardware malfunction.
