Educational institution date
The official date of birth of the Samara Law Institute is considered June 1, 1994. On this day, an order was issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, which announced the opening of a branch of the Elabuga police school of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The school emerged as an institution training police officers and detectives of the criminal investigation department. Later it turned into the Samara Law Institute of the Federal Penitentiary Service and became a real training ground for specialists in the penal system.
Predecessors in Samara
The Samara Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which became the successor to the police school, was not the first educational institution to train specialists in this field. Back in 1943, on the orders of the NKVD of the USSR, a special school was opened in Kuibyshev to train the authorities for the protection of prisons and correctional institutions. At that time, similar schools were created in many cities, and training in them was as full and fast as possible - it took only six months. At the same time, the Central School of the NKVD was opened in Krasnaya Glinka, leading the training of future employees of the Peopleβs Commissariat. After the war, schools were closed, and for more than ten years there were no institutions in the Samara region that trained specialists for various NKVD services.
Only in 1963 a branch of the police school reopened in Kuibyshev, which lasted until 1989. He has released many specialists in various fields.
Reasons for opening Samara Law Institute
The urgent need for staffing law enforcement agencies reappeared only in the early 90s. Again, the question arose of opening a special educational institution in Samara. At that time, specialists working in power structures, as a rule, did not have higher professional education, and considerable resources, both material and temporary, were expended on their retraining. The opening in Samara of the law institute of the Federal Penitentiary Service was to solve this problem.

The new history of the Samara Law Institute began in November 1993 with the first enrollment of students in the specialty "Law Enforcement". Since then, the growth and development of the institution has begun. The year 1996 was marked by the first officer graduation of lawyers and recruitment for a new specialty - the Department for the Execution of Sentences.
From 1994 to 1999, more than 1,500 organ specialists left the walls of the Samara Law Institute.
