Toyota Aygo - a class A city car, positioned as a fashionable vehicle for young people. It has been produced by the Japanese automobile concern since 2005 in the Czech town of Colin. Since its launch, the model has become one of the most popular Toyota compact cars on the European market.
History reference
On July 12, 2001, Toyota and PSA Peugeot Citroën made a strategic decision to create a single platform for an A-class city car in order to reduce development costs. This project is called B-Zero. At its base, the French introduced the Peugeot 107 and Citroën C1, and the Japanese - Toyota Aygo. The main differences between the models are in the design of the body, interior and installed additional equipment.
First generation AB-10
Sales of the Aygo model began in July 2005. Initially, the car was available as a three- and five-door hatchback with a catchy rear-end design. Buyers had a choice between two types of engines: a three-cylinder 1-liter gasoline with a capacity of 68 liters. from. (51 kW) and a 1.4-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 54 liters. from. (40 kW).
The new Toyota Aygo received good expert reviews and positive customer reviews. First of all, the car stood out for its modern look, good equipment and enviable profitability (especially the diesel version). The model “lit up” on such rating TV shows as Top Gear and Fifth Gear.
However, in 2010, part of the cars was recalled for repair in connection with cases of acceleration of the accelerator pedal. Moreover, the problem was typical for the entire B-Zero line with automatic transmission, which also includes the Peugeot 107 and Citroën C1.
Restyling
In 2009, the model underwent the first restyling. When looking at the Toyota Aygo photo, it becomes obvious that the changes affected the front bumper and the most characteristic body part - expressive rear lights. Dimensions cars remained the same.
Three years later, designers improved the appearance of the Toyota Aygo by giving the front bumper a wider and more angular grin of the grille. Also, the baby acquired daytime running lights.
Security
According to the German Automobile Club, Toyota Aygo in terms of reliability is located at the top of the class of compact cars sold in Europe. The model complies with the environmental standards of the EEC: CO 2 emissions are 106 g / km and 109 g / km for gasoline and diesel engines.
According to Euro NCAP test results, the car received 3 stars. At the same time, the safety of adult passengers and children is rated at 4 stars. The overall downgrade was due to the danger to pedestrians (2 stars).
Aygo Crazy
In 2008, Toyota created a universal concept car called Aygo Crazy. It was presented to the general public at the British International Auto Show in London in July 2008. The car has a 1.8-liter VVTi engine from Toyota MR2 and Celica, coupled to a five-speed gearbox of the MR2 series and equipped with a Motorsport turbocharger converter. The power plant produces 197 liters. from. (147 kW) at 6,700 rpm and a torque of 240 Nm at 3,400 rpm.
Specifications Toyota Aygo Crazy outstanding for this class. Weighing only 1050 kg, the car acts as a real sprinter: from zero to 100 kilometers per hour, it accelerates in 5.75 seconds. The maximum speed exceeds 200 km / h.
The sporty modification stands out with wider arches, 17-inch alloy wheels and Goodyear tires. The rear spoiler is made of carbon fiber. Salon reinforced with an additional frame. Second Generation AB-40
Toyota revealed the new Aygo in Geneva in March 2014. The design of the compact van has significantly changed. He became more youth in high-tech style. As the developers explained, they drew their ideas from Japanese street culture, and the design of the robot from the cult manga "Astro-Boy" was taken as the basis. The main feature is the X-shaped “neckline”, passing through the entire hood, in color different from the color scheme of the body. The dimensions remained compact: the width is 1.61 m, the length is 3.4 m, the height is 1.46 m. The mass does not exceed a ton (890 kg).

- Aygo X-play - in addition to the X modification, manual adjustment of AC, Bluetooth and steering wheel control are provided.
- Aygo X-pression - In addition to the X-play, it has 15-inch silver alloy wheels, leather seats, a seven-inch X-touch multimedia system, DAB + radio, front fog lights and a rear view camera.
- Aygo X-cite - In addition to the X-pression, it is equipped with 15-inch black glossy alloy wheels and the X-nav option.
- Aygo X-clusiv - in addition to the X-pression installed climate control AC, X-nav system and intelligent engine start.
- Aygo X-pure - a special X-pression series, available in pure white body color with silver X trim, the original rear bumper, specially treated alloys and a protective glass at the rear.
The AB-40 also includes many safety features, such as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Auxiliary Start Control (HAC), and Six-Air Bag Restraint System (SRS).
In March 2018, in Geneva, the Japanese concern presented an updated version of the second-generation Aygo. A distinctive feature is a more expressive front with embossed embossments on the hood and a new bumper. The rear is still characterized by a large glazing area.
The salon has also undergone some changes. First of all, the steering wheel has become wider and more comfortable. The height of the seats decreased by 1 cm. Significantly improved multimedia system.

The fact that the expressive compact van found a response in the hearts of Europeans is evidenced by good sales of the model. With production plans of 100,000 units annually, sales are almost 90,000 units. The high demand is due to the modern appearance, comfortable interior, ideal dimensions for the city and high efficiency. At the same time, the Japanese were able to fit into a small volume almost all of the key safety features for the driver and passengers.
Owners note the high maneuverability of the "baby" with sufficient engine power. Of particular pleasure is the driving process itself thanks to well-thought-out ergonomics, excellent visibility (including from behind), an optimally tuned suspension and additional options.
Among the non-critical disadvantages, motorists note a small number of compartments for small items, the absence of armrests, a small amount of luggage (which is natural for this class), and a “fragile” tailgate, mostly consisting of tempered glass.
In general, the car makes a good impression. Although it is positioned as the first vehicle for young people, experienced drivers are happy to purchase the model. Aygo often acts as the second vehicle in the family.
