What is lambda probe snag?

After about 110-150 thousand kilometers, almost all motorists are faced with the problem of the appearance of the ominous Check Engine on the dashboard. The reason for this may be a failed catalyst. Typically, the “Check Engine” light comes on due to a lambda probe sensor. In our case, it gives the electronic engine control unit a signal notifying that the catalytic converter is not working properly . In order to eliminate such a problem, motorists mount such a part as a lambda probe blende. Using it, the sensor will give the “correct” signal to the electronic unit about the state of the catalyst and exhausts in the system.

At the moment, there are three varieties of tricks:

  • Mechanical This is the most common option among motorists.
  • Electronic .
  • Electronic emulator of the lambda probe.

How do they differ among themselves?

All the details presented have many differences, primarily related to the price category. The first type is the simplest and, accordingly, cheap. Often this is a part made of special heat-resistant steel measuring 2 x 1.2 centimeters. Such a blende lambda probe can withstand temperature loads up to 650 degrees Celsius. The remaining parts are also quite hardy and functional, but their cost exceeds all acceptable limits, so the mechanical version is in the lead in all lists. Also worth noting is the bundle of bent tricks. It is intended for installation in hard-to-reach places where there is no ordinary spacer. The bent lambda probe is capable of turning within a radius of 360 degrees while remaining functional. However, in it the distance from the exhaust nut to the center of the axis of the probe is no more than 12 millimeters. For comparison: the mechanical blende of a lambda probe has a 35 mm distance between the same elements.

What are the benefits of them?

The deception of the lambda probe primarily reduces the fuel consumption of the car. In addition, the engine power increases significantly. As a rule, this value is 4-5 percent. Such a “bonus” arises due to a decrease in the exhaust gas resistance in the catalyst.

What to choose?

Definitely, the best option would be a mechanical snag. It is a small part with a thread, thanks to which the product is screwed into the emulator. Also positive is that the mechanical blende incorporates a platinum rhodium catalyst element, which is similar to the matrix of the original catalyst. As a result of this, the probe sensor will receive only that information about the air-fuel mixture that complies with international environmental standards.

Will this mechanical blende fit on a lambda probe of a domestic car?

This part is suitable for absolutely all modern cars, be it a Japanese Mazda or a domestic VAZ. To be more precise, the snag is installed on those cars in which there are screw-in lambda probes (and this is most vehicles).
