GAZ 2410 - the legend of the Soviet automobile industry

In the days of the USSR, Volga cars always had the status of a prestigious vehicle, they increased the social status of their owners. The Volga was one of the most luxurious cars of the era. They have always been difficult to purchase, as they hit the market in a limited edition.

Serial production of the GAZ 2410 began in 1970, but as early as 1966, two prototypes of the new Volga were assembled. And in 1967, Avtoexport announced the production of the GAZ 2410 model, as a result, sales of the 21st Volga fell sharply, and the release of the new one was delayed for three whole years.

Serious demands were made on all generations of Volga cars: cars should be beautiful, modern for a long time, comfortable, hardy, and have high traffic.

GAZ 2410 cars became the basis of all fleets of government agencies, including law enforcement agencies (Ministry of Internal Affairs, KGB). Models with a station wagon type were used as ambulances.

GAZ 2410: specifications

The Volga designers have envisioned four types of powertrains for various automotive applications. To work in a taxi, a new 2.5-liter engine was developed on the basis of the GAZ 21 engine - an aluminum β€œfour”. For the basic version - a three-liter V-shaped six-cylinder unit. For special services and law enforcement agencies - an eight-cylinder V-shaped with a volume of 5.53 liters. A four-cylinder diesel engine was developed for export sales.

However, the oil crisis of the early seventies introduced adjustments to the plans of designers. So, the basic version of the V6 power unit (3 l, 136 hp) was never put into production. The remaining engines were implemented to one degree or another.

Commercials were released for the foreign market, in which the emphasis was placed on the solid size of the GAZ 2410, a spacious and ascetic interior, simplicity of design, FM radios, and metallic paint.

Since 1072, the first cars with a station wagon body, with three rows of seats and a body transformation system, have left the assembly line. This model becomes extremely departmental, however, it was immediately loved by ordinary people and earned the nickname "Dream of a summer resident." Such cars could be obtained in private hands after being decommissioned from state vehicle fleets or by personal order of β€œparty bonzes”. For example, the famous actor, clown Yuri Nikulin got his car in this way. He explained his need for such a car by the need to transport circus equipment.

"Volga" GAZ 2410 in the cinema

The most famous role of this car was the episodes from the movie "Petrovka 38". It was a classic detective of the time with spectacular chases. "Volga" was shot in a series of exciting chases with "scattered" cars, with jumps and broken shop windows.

The second most important role can be called the film "Office Romance." This film reflects the Soviet reality of those years, namely, the attitude to a car of this class, which can be compared with a small apartment. In general, a dream on wheels.

In 1982, the designers completely modernized the "twenty-four", and the new model GAZ 3102 was introduced to motorists .
