Legal Education In Russia

Legal education is now one of the most popular in our country. Despite the assurances of various specialists that there is an overabundance of lawyers in Russia, every year thousands of school graduates submit applications to the legal departments of various universities.

The organization of the training of lawyers in modern Russia as a whole follows the traditional Soviet system of legal education. And this is her strong point - the tried and tested methods always justify themselves.

The main way to get a law degree is to study at the law faculties of state universities, and at specialized law institutes and colleges. However, graduates of the latter do not have a higher, but a secondary legal education.

To obtain a higher legal education in Russia, a five-year full- time full- time course is envisaged . But this is for graduates who want to receive the standard status of a specialist, for a master this period is longer, for a bachelor, on the contrary, it is less. Evening and distance learning methods traditional for already working students are also provided, designed for 5 and 6 years, respectively.

According to the established principle, the educational process focuses on the training of lawyers of the broadest profile who, after completion of training, will be able to occupy any position that requires a legal education. At the same time, qualified lawyers should have sufficiently deep knowledge in any particular area of law. Therefore, for study, in addition to socio-economic, humanitarian and general educational disciplines, a wide range of highly specialized legal sciences is provided. Among them: the general theory of state and law, the history of political and various legal doctrines, the history of state and law in Russia and in foreign countries. This also includes Roman law, criminology, the judiciary, and international public and private law. Well, and, of course, various branches of the Russian legal system - administrative, civil, tax, labor, financial and criminal law and features of various processes - civil and criminal proceedings.

The last courses of study involve the study of an additional cycle of special courses, when law students undergo specialization in a certain profile: civil law, state law, criminal law, international law and others. At the same time, training courses and subjects intended for them vary depending on the chosen profile.

After completion of the main course of study, full-time students are required to complete practical training, for example, in courts. During it, the future specialist already receives initial skills that confirm a legal education.

In addition, in Russia there is a network of special higher legal institutions. These include: the Russian Academy of Justice, the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, which replaced the Higher School of Police, the Academy of Public Administration and Management, the Academy of State and Municipal Administration , etc. RAP prepares specialists who will begin to work (or are already working) in the judicial system, the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - specialist police officers, and the Civil Service Academy will release future cadres of employees of the state, municipal and local government. Here, in addition to obtaining a legal education, you can undergo retraining or continuing education courses. There are Academies in all federal districts; this is not one educational institution.

Having received a law degree, those who wish can continue their studies and engage in scientific activities in graduate school, and then in doctoral studies. After defending a candidate and doctoral dissertation, you can get the appropriate degree of a candidate or doctor of law.
