Enlarged ovary.

Today, gynecological diseases in women come to the fore among all other diseases. The fact is that women are often extremely careless about their health, and then they themselves suffer. And even if the ovary is enlarged, the woman does not go to the doctor for a long time. But this is a rather serious symptom of an incipient disease in the genital area.

When the ovary is enlarged, a woman may not feel any clinical symptoms at all. Therefore, the process very often becomes chronic.

But still, the situation is more common when the patient simply does not pay attention to alarming symptoms, referring to the common cold, hypothermia and lack of time. In this situation, the same thing happens - the disease acquires a chronic course.

If a woman has an ovary enlarged - this is always a consequence of the inflammatory process. It must be remembered that the ovaries with the uterus are the most important organs of the woman’s reproductive system, and if for some reason their work is disrupted, the reproductive function is also disrupted.

When a gynecologist on a palpation examination discovers that the ovary is enlarged, the reasons for this should be sought primarily in the inflammatory process of the pelvis. The fact is that often the infection does not manifest itself in any way and leads to chronic inflammation, due to which the ovary also increases. The ovary itself does not grow in size, but increases due to the adhesion process and the infiltrate formed around it. Sometimes the process is delayed so much that on palpation it is impossible to determine the ovary and uterus separately - everything is felt by one large organ.

Why the ovary is enlarged can only be answered after a series of diagnostic tests and studies.

There are many reasons that can cause an increase in one or both ovaries. For example, cervical erosion is the most common female disease at present, according to many, it is absolutely harmless. However, this is not so, because erosion is an injured area of the cervix, which means that pathogenic flora can quickly attach to it and an inflammatory reaction forms, which reaches the ovaries in an ascending way.

The situation when the ovary is enlarged can be triggered by an ovarian cyst. However, the cyst for this should be large enough (more than 3-5 cm) or there should be several. In some situations, a small increase in the ovary due to a small cyst can be diagnosed by ultrasound, but in such a situation it is quite difficult to determine the increase by palpation.

With the development of the tumor process in the pelvis, the ovary can also be enlarged. An oncological ovarian disease at an early stage does not lead to a significant increase in the gland, but in the later stages, when the tumor grows into a capsule and fiber, it is quite possible to palpate a large ovary. At the same time, one should not forget about possible metastases to the ovaries from other organs. Indeed, in this process, an increase in this female pelvic organ is also likely .

The growth of the female genital glands in the premenstrual period (ovulation) should not be ruled out , however, their difference is that this increase is short-term and is not accompanied by a clinical picture.

Any manifestations with an enlarged ovary syndrome may be absent. Most often, a woman feels only pulling pains in the lower abdomen, discomfort during an act of defecation. Sometimes pathological vaginal discharge and menstrual irregularities are possible.

Women with enlarged ovaries need to conduct pelvic ultrasound transabdominally and transvaginally, as well as take a blood test for hormones of the sex glands and thyroid gland. Experts recommend an ultrasound diagnosis of the thyroid gland and an STI test.
