The VAZ-2110 thermostat is a small, but nonetheless indispensable device in a car. Its correct operation determines high-quality and quick warm-up of the engine, not allowing the coolant to cool until it reaches its rated operating temperature.
By automobile thermostat is meant a device that is used in liquid cooling systems. Its main function is to maintain
the engine operating temperature. It is usually installed between the power unit and the radiator.
Principle of operation
When the engine starts, the VAZ-2110 thermostat is in the closed state, while the coolant flows in the so-called small circle, that is, it does not enter the radiator. Thanks to this, the engine warms up faster. But when the liquid reaches a temperature of 95 degrees Celsius, the thermostat on the VAZ-2110 opens, and the liquid begins to go in a large circle, entering the pipes to the radiator. From this moment, the process of cooling the antifreeze or antifreeze and, as a consequence, the car engine begins. This protects the power unit from overheating.
Malfunctions
If the thermostat stops working on the VAZ-2110, then there are malfunctions associated with the cooling system. There are two possible scenarios:
- Valve stuck open. In this case, after starting the engine, the coolant immediately begins to pass a large circle. Those. she immediately begins to flow to the radiator. This is expressed in a very long warming up of the car and a long time when the power unit reaches the operating temperature. Since engine cooling is performed, the operation of the vehicle is not prohibited.
- The valve is stuck in the closed position. The car engine warms up in the normal mode, but when the normal operating temperature is reached, the coolant does not begin to flow to the radiator. Those. antifreeze or antifreeze continue to spin in a small circle. As a result, the engine temperature continues to grow steadily, which leads to overheating of the power unit. In this case, operating the car is highly discouraged.
Diagnostics
The easiest way to test the device is to simply touch the cooling system nozzles. To do this, the car must be warmed up to operating temperature, and then touch all the channels. If the hose to the radiator remains cold, this means only one thing - the valve does not open, which means that the VAZ-2110 thermostat is malfunctioning.
Another method of diagnosis will require a little more effort from the performer, but at the same time he is more visual. First you need to remove the thermostat. To do this, loosen the clamps on the radiator hoses, the pump pipe and the connector with the exhaust pipe. Nothing else holds the thermostat, so you can safely remove it.
The diagnostic process itself also has no particular difficulties. To conduct a device health test, you will need a pot and boiling water. The valve should initially be in the closed position. In this state, it should be immersed in hot water, while the channel should open. It is visible to the naked eye. If the VAZ-2110 thermostat did not react to boiling water and the valve did not open, then it is faulty.
