When a person begins to believe in God and comes to church, he discovers many rules here that are well known and familiar to believers and completely incomprehensible to unchurched people. At first, such a mass of rules seems to be unnecessary rituals, and only later does a person realize that in this way the church puts a kind of spiritual barrier between sin and man.
Man never stands still. Either he rises up, or steadily rolls down in his spiritual state. It was in order to support a person every day that the church established some prayer rules. This, for example, morning prayers, prayers before meals or evening prayers. For beginners, this all seems far-fetched and superfluous. But in fact, only a regular reminder of God sometimes allows you to refrain from condemnation, malice, lies and petty theft, that is, from those many sins that are filled every day.
Morning prayer is gratitude to God for life and for awakening. Starting from the day of prayer, a person immediately tunes in to a graceful manner and good deeds. He asks God for blessings for forthcoming activities.
The day ends with an evening prayer. For beginners, any prayer rule can be shortened. For example, the usual evening rule begins with the prayer "King of Heaven." Then comes a brief invocation to God, known as the "Trisagion", then - "The Most Holy Trinity" and "Our Father". This is the usual beginning of prayers, so almost every prayer begins. The evening prayers themselves are compiled by the well-known fathers of the church and contain penitential, pleading and grateful appeals.
How long does an evening prayer take? For beginners, the prayer rule is usually shortened. It all depends on the age and state of human health. For example, children sometimes only read one prayer at night, while older people also shorten prayers. But in fact, evening prayer does not take so much time. The text with a leisurely pronunciation takes about fifteen minutes, still need to add obeisances, reading the commemoration. In general, an ordinary conscientious leisurely parishioner prays in the evening for about half an hour.
This is quite a bit, so it is obvious that evening prayer is a perfectly feasible burden for beginners.
Orthodox visit the church twice a week and on holidays. To some it seems too burdensome. Do not force yourself and immediately try to stand the whole service from beginning to end. Of course, while everything is incomprehensible and unusual, it is extremely difficult to do this. Church Slavonic language - additional complexity. It is similar to Russian, but many words are unclear or translated differently. Some read evening prayers in Russian, trying to find a translation of the service. This is correct: prayer is a conversation with God, it should be clear to the prayer. But then, when everything is gradually cleared up, it is worth switching to the usual church language.
Evening Prayer is a small step for beginners, the first step on the path to churching and gaining true joy about God. A step that is not so difficult to go through.
