Drywall: DIY installation

One of the most beautiful and wonderful inventions that a person has just come up with in the field of construction and finishing products and materials can be called plasterboard. After all, it was he who was able to completely replace the use of cement-bonded particleboard, since it weighs several times less and it is much easier to work with it. This article will convince every novice builder that using a drywall material, DIY installation will be an easy and enjoyable job.

The name of the material fully reflects its composition, namely the gypsum middle, which is covered on both sides with a decent layer of cardboard. Also on sale you can see moisture-proof drywall, the difference of which is only in the small moisture resistance of the layers of special cardboard.

Drywall is used in most cases for preliminary work, wall decoration for surface leveling, subsequent painting, wallpapering or plastering. Moreover, this material also has soundproofing properties and also insulates walls.

For repairs, you need to take all measurements to know exactly how much drywall material will be needed. Do-it-yourself installation can begin after preparing the tools. It is necessary to prepare a clerical knife, special guides made of tin, which can be purchased at any construction supermarket, painting paper tape, which must be exclusively on an adhesive basis, as well as tape measure and a simple pencil.

Standard sheets are produced in the size of 2500 * 1200 mm, and this is very convenient for typical multi-apartment residential buildings, the wall height of which reaches two and a half meters.

Do-it-yourself drywall cabinet? There is nothing easier if you know the basics and have the desire. First you need to create a frame on which drywall will be attached. To do this, you will need guides made of thin sheet metal of two types (one two centimeters wide, the second eight), self-tapping screws (about two centimeters long and the head should be wide), an electric drill, metal scissors or for tin and a bit nozzle that goes under Phillips screwdriver.

From the prepared narrow guides, a strong structure is formed - the frame. Stiffeners in this design are created using wide guides. The next step is to connect the guides. A bit-nozzle is connected to the electric drill cartridge, then a self-tapping screw is inserted. The edge of one guide should be inserted into the wall of the other, but the edges of the guides should fall into the grooves one to the other and in the center of the joint all this is fastened with a self-tapping screw.

Before attaching the finished sheets of drywall, you need to make sure that the frame is even. This can be easily done using the construction level. If the walls are uneven, then wooden pegs will come to the rescue, which you just need to put under the rail. And only after the frame is finally aligned, you can proceed directly to the installation of drywall.

Screw the screw carefully so as not to destroy the material, at least two to three millimeters from the edge and one millimeter deep into the sheet itself, then it will be possible to hide the screw head. It is necessary to ensure that the sheets of building material very closely adjoin one another and no cracks form. And at this stage, the process of leveling the walls using plasterboard material, DIY installation is almost over.

Cutting drywall sheets is very easy, and most importantly - quickly. It is enough to make accurate measurements and recheck them, after which, using a guide or a regular staff, using a clerical knife, make a not-so-deep cut along the length of the sheet. Then you need to take the middle of the sheet with your hand and make a roll towards the rail itself. If everything is done correctly, then the necessary part of the drywall is very easily broken off. By the same principle, a shelf is created from drywall with their own hands.

If you follow this instruction, then no problems should arise. The main thing that you now know is to use drywall, do it yourself with your own hands - all this is very easy!
