The British group Coldplay is one of the most popular in the world. Her music penetrates the heart of every listener, making you think about the most important. How was the group formed? What influenced their work? Was their path easy? You will learn about this from our article.
Start
The members of the Coldplay group met in a college dormitory, where they received their education. Chris Martin and John Buckland immediately found a common language, because they had a common passion - music. The idea of creating their own group was constantly discussed by them. Later, the guys get acquainted with Guy Berryman, unite in a musical group and sometimes play in London clubs. The last member of the team is Will Champion, who knows how to play acoustic and bass. Unfortunately, he did not know how to play percussion instruments, but quickly learned. The name Coldplay was given to the guys by another group, who considered it too depressing.
Safety
The first release of Coldplay was the mini-album Safety, which the musicians recorded on their own money. It included only 3 songs: Bigger Stronger, No More Keeping My Feet On The Ground, Such A Rush. The album was recorded at London's Sync City studio and released in a circulation of 500 copies. The guys distributed most of the discs to their friends and acquaintances, and also sent them to record companies in England in the hope of further cooperation. The remaining 50 copies were given for sale.
The album cover was also chosen absolutely by accident - one of the friends took a picture of Chris Martin during one of the first concerts in a London club near the inscription Safety door ("Emergency exit").
In 1998, the director of the recording studio Fierce Panda Records, Simon Williams, noticed a talented group during a live performance. He offers the guys to record a couple of songs, and soon the single Brothers and Sisters is released with a circulation of 2500 copies. The song is noticed by Radio 1 director Steve Lamack, and it gets into rotation, and then to 92nd place in the British top chart. For a little-known musical group, this was a pass to life.
The blue room
A year after the release of the first album, Coldplay became immediately interested in two directors of recording studios - Parlaphone and BMG Publishing. The group signs contracts with two major recording studios, plays at concerts, receives good reviews for their song Brothers and Sisters.
After many successes, the group decides to record their first solo album, work on which begins in the summer of 1999. But then all kinds of problems and disagreements began - Will Champion, the drummer of the group, got addicted to hard drugs, as a result of which he was expelled from the group. Because of this, Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, began to drink, and the non-good drummer decided to return.
The musicians recorded 3 new songs - Don't Panic (early version), High Speed and See You Soon, as well as 2 previously recorded songs - Such A Rush and Bigger Stronger. The latter regularly gets into rotation on the radio. At the same time, Coldplay regularly raises accusations that they "licked" their style from bands such as Radiohead, Verve, Travis.
New stage
The next album by Coldplay was released in 2000 Parachutes. The guys worked on it for half a year, and it was a really difficult time. According to the memoirs of the musicians themselves, they took the recording of a solo album as the last chance in their life and wanted to accommodate as many different styles and directions as possible. The guys spent 15 hours at the studio, practically did not get out of there. By their own admission, if someone else was in the studio with them at that time, he would simply go crazy!

And finally, in the summer of 2000, Parachutes comes out. It really has everything - from the sad Shiver to the cloyingly joyful Yellow. The latter becomes a symbol of the summer of 2000 and the most popular, and the entire album has been kept in the top 10 British charts for a year. Critics called Coldplay "another sad band like Radiohead," and the song Yellow is too rosy-fun. The musicians say that they did not want to bring their listeners into a state of depression, rather the opposite - their work encourages you to believe in the best and expresses the most sincere emotions.
A rush of blood to the head
In late 2001, Coldplay began writing songs for the album A Rush of Blood to the Head, which was scheduled for release in August 2002. The musicians of the Coldplay collective promoted the album for a year and a half and gave charity concerts in support of it.
The first song on the Politik album was written by Chris Martin after the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The lead singer of Coldplay claims that one night he could not sleep and he decided to record this song on paper. When recording and mixing, the song turned out to be quiet, but later Chris made it much louder than the original to convey the mood. Coldplay songs such as God Put a Smile upon Your Face, The Scientist, In My Place and Clocks have been nominated for many awards.
When the group traveled in support of their second album around the world, the musicians visited many countries on five continents, became the main guests and highliners of festivals such as Glastonbury, V2003 and Rock Werchter. Rolling Stone magazine spoke of Coldplay as the best band in 2003. This album made a splash and took 473 position in the ranking of the 500 best albums of all time.
X & Y
In 2004, Coldplay was ripe for a new, third album.
The work went much better than on the second, but still something went wrong in the recording. Musicians constantly thought that music sounds fragmented, lacks unity. To achieve it, they began to spend more time together - go on picnics, play soccer, chat. According to Chris Martin, only together can achieve the desired sound.
In April 2005, the first long-awaited single of the third album, called Speed of Sound, was released. Soon, the album X & Y, actively announced in the media, is coming out. Many were waiting for this album - the band members regularly gave interviews, appeared on talk shows, and in every way announced the release of the album. Speed of Sound immediately after the release rose to 8th place in the British top chart. In this they were on a par with Tne Beatles. Ahead of the critics, this time the musicians decided to name everyone who influenced their work - Kate Bush, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode, Bob Marley.
Overcoming
In the fall of 2006, the band members began creating their fourth studio album. The most popular among fans enjoyed the music of the band Coldplay called Violet Hill and Viva la Vida. The latter made a lot of noise - members of the group were repeatedly accused of plagiarism, but soon these charges were declared unfounded. Well-known musician Joe Satriani has filed a lawsuit against Coldplay. He was convinced that the band violated the copyright of his song. Satriani claimed that Coldplay completely copied the guitar motif in the song Viva La Vida from his repertoire, specifically from If I Could Fly. The prosecution was told that the lead singer of the group “copied and pasted significant excerpts” from his song, which was released in 2004 in the album There There Love In Space. The musician was outraged by the "plagiarism" and demanded that the group transfer to him part of the fees received from the sale of the single Viva La Vida.

Unfortunately, during a tour in support of the fourth album, members of the Coldplay music group realized that there was an overwhelming creative disagreement between them. Chris Martin announced the completion of the group in 2009.
Mylo xyloto
But, to the surprise and joy of the fans, in 2011 the guys released their new album Mylo Xyloto with many wonderful songs. But the guys did not stop and began work on a new album. It was obvious that the disagreements that the band members were able to overcome only benefited. Coldplay wanted to create an album with a more acoustic focus. They succeeded - at the end of 2015 a new album A Head Full of Dreams was released. The most popular song was the song Adventure Of A Lifetime, on which the famous clip with monkeys was shot. The song has gained truly worldwide popularity. A lot of covers appeared on the network, arrangements for various musical instruments. The global network had a positive effect on the popularity of the group.
Coldplay now
Soon the group pleased their fans with the release of a new video work called Hymn for the Weekend. This song has an interesting story: Chris Martin once jokingly said that the group does not have a single dance song that could be included in a nightclub. He began to think about how the song would sound, whatever the words would be. And once these thoughts resulted in a result - an unconditional hit. For a short period of several months, the clip of the British band Coldplay and Beyonce, which the group invited to participate in the recording of the song, already had 150 million views on the YouTube video portal.
One of the latest news about the soloist of the group is the news of his purchase of a musical theater in Malibu with a total value of $ 4.45 million. The building has a very rich history: a huge journey has been made from a small church to a large recording studio.
If we talk about the personal life of Chris Martin, the lead singer of the Coldplay group, it is known that he lived legally for 11 years with the famous actress Gwyneth Paltrow. Due to the artist’s incredibly busy schedule, the star couple broke up in 2014. Chris and Gwyneth have two beautiful children: the daughter of Apple Blaze Alison, born in 2004, and the son of Moses, Bruce Anthony, who was born in 2006. Gwyneth Paltrow is also known to be a vegetarian, as is the whole Chris family. However, after the divorce, Martin still decided to return to his former life and habits and began to eat meat.
Last summer, Coldplay concerts were held around the world in support of the new album. To the great regret of the Russian-speaking fans, the musicians have never been to Russia. Hopefully this will happen.
The team continues to receive all kinds of prizes and awards. For example, Coldplay has been nominated six times for the British Billboard Music Awards 2018. Numerous fans of the group will find the latest news about their favorite music group on the official website of the group, as well as in official accounts on social networks.
