Show business is a commercial activity in the entertainment field. This is what they call events, the performance of numbers aimed at entertaining a mass audience. Show business is a film industry, television, beauty contests, radio. In the broadest sense, this is advertising of information programs, performances of actors, shooting videos, creating posters.
Story
For the first time such events began to be held in ancient times. Theaters existed in Ancient Greece, large-scale sports competitions were held. In Rome, gladiators were peculiar celebrities of show business. And if the theater was understood by people with a developed aesthetic perception, then fights were watched by any, even the most unpretentious audience.
Due to the increased demand for such events, professional organizers and participants in the battles appeared. They went on tour. In the course of how this area developed, bookmakers appeared who took bets on the victory of various stars of show business of antiquity.
Due to the riskiness of such activities, the high probability of death, slaves were engaged in this for the most part. But there were those who came here voluntarily. There are cases when gladiators remained in battle even after gaining freedom. The most successful fighters received expensive gifts, interest from bets.
When ancient civilization perished, spectacular events have sunk into oblivion. But in people, the need for "bread and circuses" flourished. In Europe, the heyday of Christianity, the gladiators fought condemned, but they were replaced by new amusements of a slightly different kind. Knightly tournaments were held, and there was only more cruelty in society - and the fun was in the spirit of those times.
Spectacular events returned fully to the New Age, when the service sector developed.
In Russia
The first Russian show business actually appeared in 1854. Then the state theaters had a monopoly on holding variety shows. And in 1882, the monopoly was abolished, and there appeared private entrepreneurs who earned on entertainment.
Until the 20th century, the main problem was brewing in this area - it was difficult to gather many spectators for one event. And when the radio appeared, the sound recording, and after the movie, the show business, it gave a new life. He began to represent spectacles for the whole people.
Once, until the 1960s, an adult audience was the main viewer in the country, but then the industry began to focus on young people.
In the world
The fastest growing entertainment industry has developed in Western European countries and in the United States. The need for leisure was becoming more acute, the demand for products grew. The first show business scandals appeared, which people watched with pleasure.
To meet the needs of society, entrepreneurs invented increasingly sophisticated ways to spend leisure time - they found new talents, produced shocking spectacles in which huge amounts of money were invested. Outside Europe and the USA, this was less pronounced in show business. A tendency toward Americanization has ripened in society.
The development of mass culture
The development and implementation of creativity in this area was determined by the market. Art objects are a commodity in these respects, and subjects are consumers. Perception is due to commodity-money exchange. Stimulates his marketing.
Show business includes exploiting the popularity of artists. Gossip of show business is widely discussed in society due to the fact that most are afraid to live a vibrant life and prefer to follow the life of other people. The main persons in the industry are not the artists themselves, but the producers who sell projects, create an image, select a repertoire, and negotiate with the media. The success of the project depends on getting into the tastes of consumers. There are a lot of tools here: timely rumors of show business, personal charm of artists and the correct presentation of their images contribute to the popularity of the project.
"Stars" are created in several ways. Sometimes talented people develop their skills on their own, making money on performances. After they record successful work, find the company with which they conclude a contract.
The second way - the producer is looking for a suitable artist for himself, looking at a lot of candidates. As a rule, a competition is held to participate in a particular project. The person who receives the role becomes a new star.
Income
The most successful stars count on the highest returns. For example, the net profit of musician Paul McCartney in 2002 amounted to 72 million dollars. The income of stars is a form of rent, it is entirely due to the presence of demand for them. But not all stars receive life support.
back side
Often, receiving the first money, a person begins to “litter” it, and by the end of their careers many live the same life out of habit, eventually ending in ruin. Most often in show business they do not linger for several decades. There are many more stars in the world with a ruined career who have gone bankrupt on the path to fame than they have come to success.
Features of the sphere
There are extremely high marketing costs in this industry. Moreover, the sphere is actually controlled by the five largest producers of phonograms - they own more than 70% of the world market.
Since the heyday of the region, there has been a confrontation between commercial shows and "high" art, in which talented people are involved. A product designed for the mass audience, often has the worst quality, does not contribute to personal development, the development of art, but brings more money.
With the growing popularity of show business, elite forms of art were suppressed. And at the moment, virtually no cultural phenomenon is able to gain recognition until it acquires the format of the show. Market relations have become the only way to save art.
Russian realities
The most popular today are not genuine masters of their craft who sincerely indulge in work, but those who received approval in the collective consciousness created a brand. Successful are not talented actors, but corresponding to virtual values.
On Russian territory during the USSR there was strict state censorship. The list of requirements for each artist was a long one. Payment to them was determined by their popularity. In 1992, the situation changed.
In the 1990s, the heyday of production projects began. As a rule, an attractive girl was taken as an artist, and after that an intensive “promotion” began. Soon the whole country knew her, and the tour began, on which the producer together with the hired artist earned their money. The role of the media in the show business of Russia has been decisive.
Until now, there are many talented projects, films that have remained in the shadows, their creators did not have a budget. While on television channels, low-quality works, which were recorded solely for the purpose of making money, circulated and became popular. A similar trend does not pass without a trace.
Russian show business lags behind the western by many steps. For Western sharks, this area of our country is interesting only in the quality of an importer of American and European products.
Attempts to interest Western consumers with Russian products have failed. The only major breakthrough in this field of recent decades is the Tatu group, whose compositions were distributed in ordinary US shopping centers along with foreign tracks in the 2000s.
Differences
Specialists of the region note the fact that Russian realities and Western show business are very different. So, European and American producers do not undertake projects in which there is no creative potential, because of the great competition in this field. But in Russia this is common. This is clearly seen in the example of our cinema, which cannot be compared with the western one. At the moment, financial support from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation provides 50% of the total budget of Russian films per year.

Sponsored by a certain circle of directors who make films with clearly traceable propaganda thoughts. The infamous “Cinema Fund” created a situation in which, without state support in this area, it is virtually impossible to stay afloat. There is a reduction in the number of Hollywood products in the Russian box office. There is virtually no competition. While in the West, the highest quality projects are sponsored. And in conditions of competition, the creators of films strive to win the audience with their talent.
