Interior design is a comprehensive concept. It is impossible to single out one aspect and abandon the rest. Color, light, furniture, decor elements - there are no trifles. But you should start with the "frame" of the interior - the light.
What is the light
The first and most important form of lighting is natural light . Of course, it is most favorable for vision, for work and for health in general. Unfortunately, the realities of the modern world are such that many have to work in the dark.
By the way, before the invention of glass, holes in the huts of the Slavs were tightened by bull bubbles, which reduced the already small percentage of light entering the room. In the dark, people used torches, and to whom affluence allowed - candles.
Decorative lighting increases light intensity
But we have not rushed home for a long time, when the sun is setting, and we are happy to use the good of civilization - artificial light . The assortment of artificial lighting devices is greater than ever.
Still light is warm and cold . There is a special scale of light (color) temperature (measured in kelvins):
- 2700โ3500 K - warm light (morning or evening sun),
- 4000โ5000 K - white light (daylight)
- 6500 K and higher - cold white light.
Important: warm light is traditionally considered the most favorable for humans. Cold is used primarily for lighting workplaces , warehouses, offices, where the quality of work depends on a well-lit workplace. Experts do not recommend using daylight at home at all, you run the risk of knocking down your biorhythms: the body, perceiving this light as daylight, will think that it is daylight outside, although you have to go to bed for a long time.
What types of lighting are there?
Ceiling lights - an important detail in the interior
Itโs not enough just to buy a light bulb and hang it under the ceiling, the light from it still needs to be directed correctly. So, lighting can be done:
- Spotlight is the type of lighting we are used to: lamps, floor lamps. They give a small "beam" of light to a certain surface, without lighting the entire room. Remember at the same time that there are certain standards for the distance from the lamp to the illuminated surface: for a table lamp, the norm is considered to be 30โ40 cm, and for a night lamp - 15โ20 cm. By the way, backlighting also belongs to the category of spot lighting;
- scattered - when large areas are lit. These are, as a rule, bright lamps, and their height should be at least 120 cm from the floor;
- reflected - the most natural form of lighting. The light first falls on the reflector, and then scatters throughout the room. It practically does not give shadows, and therefore it is not suitable as a working light for any painstaking work, for example, embroidery - without shadows, forms are more difficult to distinguish.
Now let's talk about color
Color is our mood, no more, no less. We choose a color unconsciously, intuitively, and our psychological comfort depends on this choice in many ways. When creating an interior project, it is important not to be guided by a momentary desire a la โpaint the ceiling in pink!โ, But by a clearly balanced decision.
Room in turquoise or green color sets for relaxation
An improperly selected color can cause irritation, depression and even a headache - keep this in mind.
When planning the design of the room, we advise you to consult with a specialist in color, but for now we offer a short guide to the main colors in the interior:
Warm colors. Red, orange, yellow . Symbolize activity, vitality, positive. Red, for example, has long been considered the "color of life" due to its identification with the color of blood. Using these colors, the room looks warmer. Good in the interiors of kitchens, nurseries.
Pros: energize, keep in good shape, increase the appetite and the "temperature" of the room.
Cons: excess of yellow and orange is fraught with overwork, stress, overeating, and abuse of red can even increase blood pressure. Designers do not recommend using red as the base color.
Neutral colors. Green, brown. These are natural, natural colors - colors of harmony. Often used as basic in the interior. Fit into any room, especially if it is a bedroom or living room.
Pros: soothe, tone, refresh, help to concentrate.
Cons: they are practically absent, but it is better to beware, for example, of an excess of green in the interior (especially its flashy tones), the phrase "green longing" appeared clearly not from scratch.
Cool colors. Blue, blue, purple . The colors of calm, intelligence, recovery. Blue gives clarity of thought, brings coolness - designers like to choose it for bedrooms. Blue and violet will be โheavier" - they are better to use as accents. They look very stylish in the bathrooms.
Pros: blue and blue reduce pressure, help restore strength, purple tunes in a lyrical, romantic mood.
A population survey of 17 countries showed that blue is the most favorite color on earth. It is preferred by 40% of the world's people.
Cons: excess of blue and violet can lead to loss of concentration, depression, depression, and too much blue will create a feeling of cold in the room.
The following two colors can not be attributed to either warm or cold, in all color classifications they go separately:
White Color purity, symbol of renewal. It has the property of reflecting the sun's rays, which can be used as additional illumination, especially in small rooms.
Pros : the best way to expand the space and give the room a special aura.
Cons : Without dilution with other colors, it will look boring.
Black is an elegant and mysterious color. It has the ability to absorb light and visually reduce space - remember this when planning.
Pros : gives many a sense of protection. In moderation, gives the design style and sophistication.
Cons : with excess, apathy, tension can occur. Florists do not recommend it as a leading color.

Living room in soothing colors
Well, how can this be combined?
First, do not double any effect. If you have yellow walls, you do not need to equip the room with warm light lamps, it is better to opt for neutral light lamps. And vice versa, if your leading color is blue, then you should not buy lamps with a temperature of 6000โ6500 K, you will psychologically โfreezeโ.
Secondly, arrange your light in accordance with the season: in winter it will be better to add a little heat to the lighting, and in the summer - a little cool.
Thirdly, take note that natural materials (leather, wood) always look better with warm light. Metal and plastic like neutral and cold lighting.
Fourth, use imagination! Although the selection of colors and obeys certain laws, sometimes improvisation fits perfectly. And remember, the main criterion is your personal comfort.
