The famous Russian composer David Fedorovich Tukhmanov is known primarily for his songwriting. However, in his composer's legacy there are many other interesting works and achievements. Childhood and family
Tukhmanov David Fedorovich, future composer, was born on July 20, 1940 in Moscow. David’s mother was a musician, composer and from childhood developed her son’s musical abilities. Under her guidance, a boy from the age of 4 began to master the piano and already at that time created the first independent work - lezginka. The father of the boy is an engineer, originally from Armenia. Therefore, David Fedorovich Tukhmanov called his nationality mixed - Russian-Armenian. From childhood, the boy’s path was predetermined, his mother’s persistence and natural musical abilities did not give David the opportunity to choose a different life path.
Years of study
In 1948, Tukhmanov David Fedorovich entered the Gnesins' music school at the piano class. E. Efrussi became his first teacher, but the founder of the school, Elena Fabianovna Gnesina, took an active part in the education of the boy. It was she who saw him more as a composer than a performer, and in every possible way encouraged his writing activity. Already in the elementary grades, David creates the first musical opuses: romances, piano pieces, ballads. In high school, Tukhmanov is engaged in a composition class with an outstanding teacher of the school, Lev Nikolayevich Naumov.
In 1958, David graduated from high school. By this time, he already knows exactly who he wants to become, and therefore goes to college with him. Gnesins at the composer’s department. His thesis - an oratorio for the choir, orchestra and soloists on the text of the poem by A. Twardowski "Far Into the Distance" - received the highest rating from the examination committee. In 1963, a new certified composer, David Tukhmanov, appeared in the country.
Professional way
After graduation, Tukhmanov David Fedorovich went to serve in the army, where he began to work by profession - he leads his first team, orchestra in the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Moscow Military District. And in the mid-60s, he began his journey into the world of professional composing. He has been attracted to the pop genre since his student days, and he begins to write music for songs, in this field he became famous and began to earn a living. In addition, Tukhmanov tries himself in the role of the artistic director of various groups. So, in 1986 he became the head of a commercial project - he became the head of the Electroclub group, where Irina Allegrova, Igor Talkov, and later Vladimir Saltykov sang. But such work did not bring him satisfaction.
Gradually, Tukhmanov has a growing need to create something serious, he recalls his experiences writing chamber music at the institute. At different times, he creates cycles of ballads and romances to verses by famous poets: I. Annensky, Georg Trakl, Boris Poplavsky.
In 1989, the composer began working with the theater. Together with the children's poet Yu. Entin, he writes the musical Baghdad Thief, which is staged at the Moscow Satirikon Theater and the Sverdlovsk Musical Comedy Theater. Later, he writes music for the one-man show of Lyudmila Gurchenko “Madeleine, calmly!”, For the production of “Married Taxi Driver” at the Moscow Satire Theater. Tukhmanov also worked in cinema. He wrote music for more than 10 art paintings.
The beginning of perestroika was a difficult time for musicians, and David Fedorovich Tukhmanov, a composer of the non-profit music direction, was leaving for Germany. This becomes a kind of creative vacation, for four years he has not written any works, rethinking his career.
In 1995, Tukhmanov returned to music as a children's composer. He writes a repertoire for children's studios, choirs, dance ensembles. Together with Yuri Entin, who also lives in Germany at that time, he creates several cycles of songs for children: “Byaki-Buki”, “Golden Hill”, “Gogol-Mogol-Disco”.
In 1997, Tukhmanov returned to Russia and again began to work on the stage. He writes remixes of his old songs, which he successfully presents in an anniversary concert in 2000, from that moment on his works begin a second life.
In the 21st century, Tukhmanov gives many original concerts, works in various music shows and in the organization of mass holidays, for example, he writes music for Independence Day of Russia. His works solemnly sound on Red Square. In 2005, he finishes the opera Tsaritsa according to the libretto by Yu. Ryashentsev. She will successfully go on the stage of the St. Petersburg Alexandrinsky Theater, in the musical theater "Premiere" in Krasnodar, in the Moscow "Helikon-Opera". Tukhmanov continues to work actively today. He participates in festivals, writes music for mass events, gives concerts.
Estrada as a vocation
The main thing in the life of composer Tukhmanov was the song. He writes his first music for the song back in 1961 - it was the hit "The Last Train" to the verses of Mikhail Nozhkin. In the 60s, the composer wrote a series of patriotic songs that were extremely popular in their time: “My address is the Soviet Union”, “I love you, Russia”, “Day without a shot”, “We are a big family”. For them, in 1972 he received the Moscow Komsomol Prize. But real pop compositions bring him real fame. His songs are sung by stars of the first magnitude: Lev Leshchenko, Galina Nenasheva, Valery Obodzinsky, Alexander Gradsky. At the same time, Tukhmanov always remained an experimental composer. So, the record “How beautiful this world is” combines songs according to the principle of a suite. In 1975, he released an experimental album, “On the Wave of My Memory” with songs to verses of classical poets, which also applied the suite principle, and elements of rock music were already visible at that time.
In the 80s, he wrote complex compositions in which classical, folk and rock elements are intertwined. The UFO record was the result of a composer’s hard-rock record. In his work, David Fedorovich collaborates with prominent singers. He writes a whole program for Sofia Rotaru, works with Valery Leontyev, helps artists such as Nikolai Noskov, Alexander Barykin, Yaak Joala to get on stage. His songs do not lose relevance today, they are sung, arranged and remembered.
Best works and discography
Tukhmanov David Fedorovich, whose biography is associated with pop music, wrote more than 210 songs. Among them were compositions of incredible popularity. In 1975, Tukhmanov, together with the poet Vladimir Kharitonov, wrote the immortal hit “Victory Day”, which was not immediately accepted by censorship, but gradually became one of the composer's most recognizable and performed songs. In total, the composer releases about 20 albums and collections. Among them are such as “Following the Wave of My Memory”, “Steps”, “How Beautiful the World is”. The fame of the songwriter was brought to him by such songs as “Nightingale Grove”, “In My House”, “Eastern Song”, “Beloved Side” and many others.
Awards
Tukhmanov David Fedorovich, whose photo is rarely seen in the mass media, did not receive awards very often. He is a holder of the Order of Friendship, the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, bears the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.

Tukhmanov David Fedorovich twice wrote music for the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Youth Olympic Games. For the Day of Slavic Writing in Novosibirsk, the composer wrote the oratorio Legend of Ermak. He wrote the first song as a child, since then it has become his vocation.
