The musician was born in 1927 in Baku. He died in 2007 in Moscow. He was not only a cellist, but also a pianist and conductor. In addition, he was involved in public affairs and taught. During his life he received many titles, awards and prizes, including being a Grammy winner.

The house in which Mstislav Leopoldovich was born has now turned into a museum.

M. Rostropovich was born in a musical family. His father was a cellist, his mother a pianist, and his grandfather Vitold Rostropovich a composer.

Mstislav Leopoldovich began to study music in early childhood. His first teachers were parents. V. Rostropovich graduated from a music school, and then a conservatory.

The musician became famous thanks to the victory in the All-Union competition. Mstislav Leopoldovich traveled with concerts to a huge number of countries. His wife was the world opera diva Galina Vishnevskaya.

For many years, the couple lived abroad, as for the support of A.I. Solzhenitsyn was not allowed to return from touring abroad, announcing that they were conducting anti-Soviet activities. Citizenship was returned to them in the 90s.

The repertoire of M. Rostropovich included not only classical works, but also the works of modern composers written especially for him.
