From birth, each of us has its own peculiarity of the course of nervous processes. In some, they are mainly aimed at themselves, while in others - at others. At one time, Carl Jung defined such properties of the human psyche as extraversion and introversion. Now, when the practical developments of psychology and socionics are of interest to many people, these terms have gained great popularity and are often found in everyday life. However, some believe that introversion is an installation that has a somewhat negative connotation, and should be disposed of. Is it really? Let's try to figure it out.
What is extraversion
This property of the human psyche implies activity, a large number of contacts, the desire to be in the thick of things, to gather around us more people. Extroverts get real pleasure from various noisy gatherings and parties. They are characterized by a craving for unexplored new experiences, impulsiveness and carelessness.
What is introversion
This installation, which is aimed at the inner world of man. People to whom it is inherent often become lonely. They are characterized by seclusion, modesty, isolation, sensitivity and sensitivity. They are also distinguished by their unwillingness to communicate with strangers. There are few friends, but they are those who are considered to be real and whom you can rely on at a difficult time.
What is introversion
This property, depending on the neuroticism of the individual, is usually divided into two types. If a person is emotionally unstable, then he is a melancholy person, and if in any situation he remains absolutely calm, then he is a phlegmatic person. It is worth noting that introversion is an innate feature of the psyche that cannot be changed at will. Due to social rejection, such a person can adjust, pull a mask and for a short time become a sociable and cheerful person. But as soon as the introvert’s need to play this role disappears, it will again turn into who it really is
Why is there an opinion that introversion is bad
Often people with this type of character are perceived as indecisive, insecure and inactive individuals. According to statistics, there are approximately 30% of them in society, i.e. less than extroverts. And since people who are oriented to the outside world, as a rule, consider interpersonal communication and interaction to be the basis of existence, they prefer to avoid introverts, claiming that they are “dark personalities” and “people who are on their minds”. In addition to this, if a person is self-oriented, he risks being accused of selfishness, alienation, arrogance and secrecy.
Introversion is as good as extroversion
In fact, loneliness is not so bad. If a person loves and appreciates him, then this suggests that he simply does not know what the lack of communication is. When the psyche is designed so that interaction and excessive social contacts cause great fatigue, you should not be upset if the test for introversion has shown positive results. Note that in socionics, the concept of intro- and extroversion is borrowed from the theory of K. G. Jung, and in psychology these concepts are interpreted in accordance with the descriptions of G. Eysenck. It is quite possible that a person is the soul of the company, has many friends, shows impulsiveness and carelessness, but at the same time focuses exclusively on himself: on his feelings, his own assessment of events, his condition. And vice versa, an extrovert from the point of view of socionics can easily turn out to be not a party lover, a recluse, a very sensitive and impressionable person. But at the same time he will be very interested in all the events taking place in the outside world and what people around him think about him.
