This car is a sports version of the usual "dvenashki". It differs not only in the performance of the body (three-door hatchback), but also in the technical “stuffing”. It was produced in limited copies in the early and mid 2000s.
Design
A distinctive feature of the VAZ-21128 is the body. Yes, it is not made of carbon fiber and does not have a reinforced frame. But the layout itself makes you look attractive. Previously, from the "three-door" it was possible to meet only the "eights" and "shirts". VAZ "tenth" of the family was deprived of this layout. The only exception was the modification of the VAZ-21128. Many people think that this is a custom body that the owners themselves sawed. But no - he walked like that from the factory. It is very difficult to make a three-door out of an ordinary “dvenashka”.
Externally, the car is practically no different from the rest of the "tenth" family. So, the VAZ-21128 has a turned bumper and grille. The remaining elements (head optics and even foglights) remained the same. The body post is painted black, which adds sportiness and volume to it. The car even after years looks very dynamic.
Salon
But inside the changes was a minimum. So, among the significant differences, it is worth highlighting other seats. Compared with conventional ones, they have more developed lateral support. As well as on the "eights", there is a lever for folding the back. This allows for a comfortable fit on the back row. By the way, the seats are adjustable not only back and forth, but also in height. The steering wheel and dashboard remain the same. The panel on this "dvenashka" is already of the European type (it has more rounded shapes), and the door cards are from luxury versions. True, they do not have buttons for electric windows. They are placed in a separate unit, which is located between the front seats.
The manufacturer notes that the sports "dvenashka" improved insulation. But as practice shows, the salon thundered, as before. Only the suspension became even stiffer (we will talk about it a little later). Perhaps the cause of this problem is hard plastic, which is used in all elements of the cabin - from the front panel to the finish. Say what you like, but the additional sound insulation of this car does not hurt. Although the motor itself is very quiet.
Specifications
So we got to the highlight of this "dvenashki". And under the hood there is a 120-horsepower injection engine VAZ-21128 1.8 16v. Reviews about him are only positive. The unit perfectly withstands all loads and is unpretentious in operation. And most importantly, he rides much better than the factory VAZ engines.
Now for the technical details. The basis of Togliatti engineers took a 1.6-liter engine, bored to 1.8 liters. The cylinder diameter was increased by 0.5 mm. Also, engineers used a new crankshaft. Unlike the standard, it provides a large piston stroke. The elements of the connecting rod and piston group themselves were lightened. This is done in order to reduce the vibration load of the motor and preserve the inertia of the crank. The 1.8-liter engine block itself is 2 millimeters higher than the factory one. And of course, there is a “shesnar” on it.
All these improvements have increased the torque from 137 to 160 Nm. The machine is characterized by high throttle response and thrust. Acceleration to hundreds is 10 and a half seconds. For comparison: the stock "dvenashka" produced a parameter of 12 and a half (moreover, on a 16-valve engine). The maximum speed increased to 200 kilometers per hour.
Transmission consumption
A five-speed “mechanics” with a reinforced secondary shaft and synchronizers is used here as a gearbox. The clutch has also been upgraded. A reinforced disk from the Luc company is installed on the VAZ-21128.
The gears are engaged clearly and confidently. As for fuel consumption, the tuning of the VAZ-21128 engine did not significantly affect the economy. In the combined cycle, the car consumes 7.5 liters of the 95th.
Chassis
The suspension of this "dvenashka" is almost factory, but slightly modified. So, in front is the usual “MacPherson”, and in the back is a beam. This suspension scheme has been practiced at AvtoVAZ since the times of the G8. But her course on the sports "dvenashka" is limited. Racks use rigid, reinforced springs. This is done with the aim of better handling. Indeed, the car does not scour and holds the road perfectly. But on the bumps it will be noticeably shaken, and there is no getting around it. Also on the front and rear axles used stabilizer on polyurethane bushings for better stability.
In addition, the brakes were modified. They are much more effective than the factory "dvenashka". AvtoVAZ engineers used a vacuum cleaner and a brake master cylinder from Chevrolet Niva. This gave excellent responsiveness to the pedal. The brakes are very energy intensive, while being easily dosed by the pedal. But there are miscalculations. For example, all the same drums are used at the back. Although the front diameter of the disk was increased for the installation of 15-inch alloy wheels (as practice has shown, the arches also contain the 17th, only on a lower profile).
The steering remains the same. In addition, a power steering is provided here. It is not equipped with a servotronic (the steering wheel does not get heavier with increasing speed), so for better handling you need to set wide tires.
Price
Unfortunately, the mass production of these machines has long ceased. And they were produced only in limited series. For the entire period of the history of the model, only 50 copies were released. There were also two-liter versions with the Opel engine (based on the "tens" sedan), but they do not belong to this topic. Indeed, in the first case, the engineers were finalizing the VAZ engine, and in the second they just bought a ready-made unit from the Germans.
If you plunge into history, then for the new model in 2003 they asked from 287 to 327 thousand rubles. This is about ten thousand dollars at the current rate. Now this car can be bought for 200 thousand rubles. On the VAZ-21128, the price is very affordable, given that this is the fastest "dvenashka" of all the factory ones.
