Ford Focus ST 3: overview, specifications

Not so long ago, Ford introduced a restyled version of the Ford Focus ST. The show took place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The place was not chosen by chance; the car radiates speed and dynamics.

On this track, those present were lucky to get acquainted with the “hot” hatchback from a European manufacturer. Well, consider the 2015 model in more detail.

Appearance

We begin our review, of course, with the exterior of the car. As a result of restyling, the hatchback noticeably refreshed, but still became more like an updated “Fiesta”. The changes were mainly of a minor cosmetic nature.

The main new thing - the front of the car, which housed headlights with bi-xenon. Adaptive optics creates a strict look and changes the angle of illumination depending on the rotation of the wheels. The system also tracks the distance to the car in front of the car and lowers the beam of light below.

Updated optics appearance

The relief of the hood surface was slightly changed, and the radiator grill was reduced in size. The air intake has become larger, the front bumper has become larger and got fog lights. Rims Ford Focus ST, as well as the front of the car, have undergone an update and create a more sporty look of the hatchback. Wheel arches perfectly fit wheels with a radius of 18-19 inches.

Branded wheels

The back has changed no less than the front. An impressive spoiler appeared on the trunk lid. The bumper became "pot-bellied" and in its central lower part the developers installed a double tip of the exhaust pipes.

Together with the hatchback body, the Ford Focus ST station wagon was produced, which differed from the smaller brother by the absence of a rear wing, the length and internal volume of the trunk.

Interior space

The interior has undergone updates less than the appearance. Finishing materials are of very high quality and many details remind of the sporty and daring mood of Ford Focus ST. In front of the driver’s eyes is a modern steering wheel, an informative on-board computer screen and bright dashboard gauge dials.

Dashboard

The central part of the front of the dashboard has acquired an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system Ford Sync with the ability to control speech. Sports buckets reliably hold the front row driver and passenger when cornering, as well as during emergency braking.

Technical indicators

The manufacturer installed two types of engines under the hood of the Ford Focus ST: gasoline and diesel, which is the first on a charged “hatch”.

Let's start with the traditional 2-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine. The power unit allows you to develop a maximum of 360 Nm thanks to 250 “horses” that accelerate the car to a maximum of 248 km / h. The speedometer needle passes the mark of 100, after 6.5 seconds from the start. The engine is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission. Note that the technical specifications of the Ford Focus ST delivered to the United States are slightly better than the European versions. The motors of these machines give out 256 horsepower with 366 Nm of torque.

Sports hatchback engine

For the first time in the Focus line, developers used a 2-liter Duratorq TDCi diesel engine as a power unit. Thanks to changes in the intake and exhaust systems, the developers managed to increase the power of a standard diesel engine (150 hp) by 35 units. Using a 6-speed manual gearbox, the hatchback accelerates to 100 km / h in 8.1 seconds. The maximum speed for a charged diesel Focus is modest - 217 km / h.

Pendant "Focus"

The independent MacPherson system in front and the traditional multi-link in the back have not gone away. Compared with the previous version, the springs and shock absorbers have become stiffer, this allows to improve the handling of the car. Disc brakes reduce the braking distance of the machine.

The manufacturer “rummaged” in the steering wheel settings, as a result increased control over the Ford Focus ST at high speeds. A car overturn is eliminated thanks to the use of the electronic Transitional Stability system and new engine mounts.

Modifications of a charged hatchback

Hot Focus comes in three equipment options:

  • ST1 - version with a fabric interior and a standard set of equipment and systems.
  • ST2 - model with a combined interior. Thanks to the combination of skin and tissue, the interior becomes fresh and modern.
  • ST3 - the richest and most expensive car. Salon exclusively with black leather seats. The dashboard is made of soft plastic, which in addition is pleasant to the touch.

As security systems, a standard set for this class is used with small additions, due to the daring nature of the car. The modern warning system about an obstacle in front, will not only notify the driver, but it will itself begin to reduce the speed of movement. This function works only at low speeds (up to 50 km / h). Parktronic is included as standard, thanks to which it will be much easier to park in narrow streets.

Also new is the system of directional stability, which allows you to keep the trajectory of movement within the lane.

Cost in Russia

Prices for a charged Ford Focus ST range from 1,200,000 to 1,500,000 rubles. Basically, it all depends on the version of the seats and the availability of bi-xenon headlights. Surprisingly, the station wagon will be available only in the ST2 and ST3 trim levels.
