When planning the design of the room, I want every detail to be in its place: without paintings it will be empty on the walls, window sills will appear naked without flowers, and let funny figures stand on bookshelves. But what to put on the floor, palace or carpet? How is a palace different from a carpet? What will look more effective, and which will hit the budget less?
You will find the answer in this article.
What can be considered a carpet?
A carpet is a product that is a one-sided fabric with a medium or long pile. For the manufacture of the carpet can be used natural materials or pleasant to the touch synthetics.
Carpets are used both for flooring and for decorating walls. They are characterized by bright and interesting patterns, so they are suitable for any interior.
History of carpet weaving
Previously, carpets were woven by hand: warp threads made of natural material were pulled onto wooden frames. Then, yarn was twisted around two adjacent threads, tying it into a knot. Each finished row was fixed with a transverse thread so that the product did not fall into strips at the end of the work. The cloth was trimmed with a mallet, then the unnecessary pile was cut off.
And so, knot by knot, a unique pattern was gradually formed. Just imagine: in a small area of carpet the size of a palm could be more than a thousand individual knots, so that the pile was not too rare! So a large carpet can consist of millions of tiny knots, each of which was tied manually.
Such carpets are created for a very long time. Even if experienced craftsmen work on the product, the speed of weaving will not change much: a carpet of two meters can take about six months of daily work. And after all, such carpets are still bought and are in great demand!
A simpler way of weaving involves the use of a jacquard machine, which appeared in the nineteenth century. They think of it when they talk about making carpets by hand. This machine can be considered the first programmed mechanism in the world. The operator’s business is to monitor the progress of the shuttle and thread the threads. This machine produced up to thirty centimeters of carpet per daylight.
Modern carpet factories are a very large jacquard machine. They produce from ten carpets per day, it all depends solely on the size of production.
What is a palace
So what is a palace, what are the differences from the carpet? In principle, we can assume that this is a "bald" carpet. The palace does not have a long pile, characteristic of carpets.
To date, the most popular rugs are produced in:
The rugs are always long, but not very wide. These paths are used in various ceremonies: weddings, presenting awards, meeting long-awaited and high-ranking persons. They are strewn with stairs in all kinds of public institutions: courts, tax and so on.
Features of the manufacture of rugs
And how does the palace differ from the carpet in terms of creation?
They make carpets using special devices or manually. As with carpets, handicrafts are much more valued - both in terms of cost and in terms of popularity. With due diligence on sale, you can find products that are created by a combined method.
The absence of pile is due to the fact that the manufacture is done by the loop method, which distinguishes the palace from the carpet. What makes these products good: they are double-sided! This means that you can put the palace on either side, and when it is trampled - just turn it over. Thanks to the hinges, the rugs are extremely durable, so you will be stitching them for a very long time.
These products can be both plain and patterned. Traditionally, they have calm dark colors. This does not mean that you will not be able to find something bright for your interior.
Differences between Palace and Carpet
When conducting repairs and selecting flooring, the question often arises: so what to choose? Palace or carpet? And what is the difference between a carpet and a rug?
- First of all, the rugs do not have their own pile or is it so minimal that it is almost not felt. Such "bald patches" of a palace may seem unpleasant to someone, but others, on the contrary, will choose this flooring because of tactile sensations.
- You can also understand the difference between a carpet and a palace, from the photo. Carpets can be either round or triangular, but the rugs are traditionally made only in a rectangular shape. Their width usually does not exceed one hundred centimeters, while the length can be tens of meters. The famous red carpet is actually a long red carpet!
- Carpets have a brighter color, as they are used not only to cover the floor, but also to decorate the walls. The palaces in terms of colors are calmer, because they are not aimed at shocking, but at the practicality of use.
- An important difference between a palace and a carpet is that the palace glides. To prevent this from happening, it must be tightened and glued well. Carpets, due to their heavy weight, do not form folds and do not move.
What to choose: carpet or rug?
If you need to decorate a room, then you should buy a bright and interesting carpet. It can not only be thrown to the floor, but also hung on the wall. In this case, by the way, the carpet performs not only the interior function, but also muffles the sounds from the neighboring room.
Are your walls so thin that they don’t retain heat? A carpet made from natural materials can help with this. His pile will act as clothing for the room, retaining heat. The peoples of the Far North even insulate their yurts with the help of hand-made carpets.
In the event that you just want to walk on a warm and pleasant material, the palace will fully satisfy your needs. It is cheaper than a carpet and is characterized by calmer colors. Also pay attention to the carpet: it does not have a certain size and is sold in rolls, so that you can lay it the whole room from wall to wall.
One more tip: carefully examine the surface on which you want to lay the coating. The palace will not hide its imperfections and irregularities, any small tubercle will seem huge under it.
