Bi-Xenon lens: do-it-yourself installation and connection

Unfortunately, not all cars and SUVs today are equipped with safe and at the same time “visionary” optics. Often, even on expensive foreign cars, there is a significant lack of light. With the development of technology, this problem has become quite solvable - instead of conventional halogen lamps, xenon is installed in the headlights. And you can do it yourself, without the use of special tools.

In today's article, we will consider how to install bi-xenon lenses with your own hands and what tools are required for this.

Cooking Tools

To install new lenses in the headlights, we need a minimal set of materials and tools. In the course of work, a head with a ratchet of 10 millimeters, a Phillips and two minus screwdrivers, stationery scissors, a marker, a hairdryer, wire cutters, a soldering iron and round-nose pliers will be used. Having this set of tools with you , you can safely proceed with the installation of such a part as a bi-xenon lens.

Installing xenon in a car

Before performing work, we will briefly understand the design of this equipment. A bi-xenon lamp consists of a module that contains a shutter with a switching mechanism for the high and low beam, a reflector, an overall lighting element and the lens itself. This optics is installed in the standard reflector of the machine. At the same time, you still have the opportunity to adjust the light, both in manual and automatic mode (if provided for by the design of the car). Optics is connected to a 12 Volt network through a special ignition module. It seems that everything is simple. So, we proceed to installation.

What needs to be done?

First you need to dismantle the standard block headlight and place it on some flat surface (for example, on a table). Then, the covers should be removed from the rear wall of the optics. To do this, rotate them counterclockwise.

After we have access to the lamps, we need to pull the plug on itself. Remember that on most cars, the dipped-beam plug turns green, and the dipped-beam plug turns blue.

How to take out a lamp? To do this, press the dipped beam lock down and then move it a little to the side. The part rises and the lamp is removed from the unit. The far-light element is removed in a similar manner. The size cartridge is pulled out of the seat without any complicated manipulations.

Using a Phillips screwdriver, the retainer must be removed along with the latch and cap. The marker indicates the direction and place of the clip on the optics housing. The part itself is removed using a negative screwdriver.

Now we take a clean and dry rag and wipe the headlight from dust. Walk carefully along its contours: it is here that most of the road dirt is hidden. After we share the glass case of the headlamp with a mask. Be careful: these two elements are glued together with a special chemical substance, which becomes liquid at high temperatures and thick at low temperatures.

Next, we heat the headlight on the burner (in compliance with all safety standards) or on the battery, then with the help of a negative screwdriver we separate the two halves of the part. It is better to start from a narrow angle, that is, where the turn signal is located. At the same time, you need to remove the plastic latches.

We put one part of the headlight (housing with a filling and reflector) in one direction, and the second (glass with a mask) in the other.

Bi-Xenon lens - do-it-yourself installation in a car

Now pick up bi-xenon optics. First, we mount the LED dimensions inside the lens (for this we need an LED strip 100-110 centimeters long). We clean the wires and fasten them to the tape with a 40-watt soldering iron. When the soldering place cools down, it should be treated with a rag (or better with a cotton swab), previously moistened with alcohol. Then we heat the tape and glue it inside the lens. How is the bi-xenon lens mounted further? Its installation should be carried out in a certain sequence. The chain goes approximately as follows: mask - lens - silicone gasket - reflector - washer H7-nut-frame of the device for fastening the screws - latch.

The second part is inserted into the reflector, and the wires from the curtain and dimensions are drawn through the standard opening. A washer is inserted from the inside, and the entire structure is clamped with a nut.

But the installation of bi-xenon lenses does not end there. Now mount the lamp mounting frame. It is held by three screws. Next, the xenon frame is inserted and fixed in place.

Task with wires

It remains the case for the wires. They should be treated with extreme caution. How is the bi-xenon lens connected? As a rule, four wires pass from the xenon kit. Two of them go from the ignition unit to the lamp, and the other two go from the headlamp to the same unit. Power wires (black and red) are connected to the plug. The latter on standard optics was worn on a passing lamp. The black wire of the unit is connected to the black on the headlight (minus), and the red wire to green (plus).

How is the bi-xenon lens connected further? Installation of wires to the LED strip is carried out in compliance with the same polarity. The “plus” in this case is the blue wire, and the “minus” is black.

We connect the lens shutter (high / low beam). Here we act similarly to the first case. Black (negative wire - low beam) is connected to black, red (plus - high beam) - respectively, to red.

DIY bi-xenon lens installation

In the cover of the dipped-beam window, we drill a 28-mm hole. This must be done with a special cutter. If you don’t have one, you can measure all the parameters with a vernier caliper, draw a circle of the required size and make a hole with a soldering iron. Excess pieces and burrs are removed with a clerical knife.

We install bi-xenon lenses - the final stage

Now we pass to the final stage - the assembly of a new headlamp. At this point, it should be closed by a lid and connected to the wires. To again glue the two halves of the optics, use a hairdryer to heat part of the headlamp and, if necessary, return the correct shape to the body with pliers.

When the substance is almost liquid, glue the halves of the optics along the contour in the reverse sequence. Then we fix in several places with their clips. Everything, our headlight assembly.

Installation of ignition blocks

But that's not all. We are faced with the task of installing ignition blocks. We fasten them with a screw with a drill to the power structure of the machine through a soundproof spacer and brackets. To prevent the electronic contacts from breaking, the plugs must point straight down. Everything, at this stage, the installation of bi-xenon lenses in the headlights was successfully completed. Similarly, the installation of optics and the second half of the block headlights.

Conclusion

So, we figured out how to install bi-xenon lenses in a car with our own hands. Finally, we note that all electrical connections made by you must be well insulated. Otherwise, the risk of a short circuit when moisture gets on the wire increases tens of times - then the bi-xenon lens will definitely not work.

Installing xenon headlights, as you see, is a completely solvable task that every motorist can handle.
