Adhesive tape: types and applications

Masking tape is a special paper tape, which is coated with a special adhesive that does not leave marks after removal. It is used in construction and finishing works, but the scope of this material is much wider.

Adhesive tape: types and specifications

Masking tape is distinguished by the type of substrate on which the adhesive is applied. They are:

  • paper;
  • polyethylene foam;
  • tissue;
  • aluminum;
  • bituminous.

Also krepp can be one- or two-sided.

masking tape

Unlike other building materials, masking tape with a paper base has several advantages. It is characterized by a huge variety of width and thickness, low weight, low cost, and also has excellent technical characteristics:

  • high adhesion, i.e. excellent adhesion;
  • good margin of safety and tensile strength;
  • wide operating temperature range from -10 to +120 degrees Celsius;
  • resistance to high humidity, frost and other adverse atmospheric phenomena;
  • compatibility with a large number of various enamels, paints, elements and details;
  • the absence of traces after removal, or their easy removal;
  • high elasticity.

Heat resistant masking tape

Depending on the characteristics, several types of crepe tapes are distinguished. Heat-resistant masking tape is used in the process of auto painting, while it retains its adhesive properties during hot drying, when the temperature can rise to 120 degrees Celsius. Using crepe is appropriate when applying a variety of logos and drawings on the car. This material does not allow paint to penetrate the glue. After the paint dries, the adhesive tape is easily removed without leaving any adhesive traces.

masking tape 50 mm

The most heat-resistant is an aluminum-based tape coated with an acrylic adhesive. This type of tape is used in the manufacture of refrigerators, freezers and other similar installations. With the help of krepp, pipe joints are sealed, as well as their thermal insulation. For corrosion protection, masking tape 50 mm is usually used - this thickness is optimal in the field of manufacturing refrigeration units.

Double-sided crepe

The strongest adhesive base of the double-sided masking tape allows the use of adhesive tape in various construction works. It is firmly attached to wood and metal surfaces that are not smooth. High stickiness allows you to freely work with rough material.

masking tape application

Construction adhesive tape is of three types:

  • on a propylene basis with a mixture of rubber and silicone glue, with which it is impregnated on both sides;
  • on a fabric basis reinforced with fiberglass;
  • mirror, able to replace in some cases even nails or screws.

Masking tape: application

The main task of krepp is to protect surfaces from various types of paints. With its help, the exact border between two colors is easily drawn. However, there are many more applications for masking tape. Here are just a few of them:

  • when working with paint, you can easily and quickly attach a film to protect a large surface;
  • when a tree is cut, chips often occur, in order to avoid this, it is enough to wrap the place of cut with masking tape and saw directly on it;
  • you can glue the grooves of the cans in a strong way to avoid collecting paint in them;
  • good stickers are made of paper tape, it is easy to write on it, and it is torn well enough, and you can label anything with labels - from books and textbooks to packaging boxes;
    masking tape
  • masking tape is also well suited for quick repair of a torn book, they can glue paper patterns, glue the back of the folded, attach various holiday decorations;
  • the sticky side of the crepe can collect the pile and hair of pets from clothes.

To come up with new areas of application is not difficult. You just need to connect your imagination and see how wide and varied the use of masking tape can be.
