Election Debate and Their Importance in a Democratic Society

Each of us is witnessing how, at a certain periodicity, the term for elections to the legislative and executive branches comes when the opportunity comes to the people of our country to exercise the right to choose and honestly fulfill their civic duty to the country. In the Russian Federation, elections are held both at the level of local councils and in the Supreme Council. In addition, once every 5 years, the presidential elections in our country are held, and all registered candidates usually hold pre-election debates.

Throughout the entire period of political campaigning, candidates have the right to place their posters on advertising platforms, publish in the press, hold meetings with voters, and develop their own political programs. However, the greatest interest among all events of this type in the majority of the population is precisely the pre-election live debate, when the whole country gets the opportunity to objectively evaluate one or another candidate for the chair in the executive or legislative branch.

The ability to speak and correctly formulate oneโ€™s thoughts is a mandatory requirement not only for a candidate for any election position, but also for all people whose activities are related to public speaking. In addition to this, charisma and outward attractiveness are also important, as a person must arouse trust and respect in voters. It is in this case that there is a high probability that a large part of the population will vote for such a person. The pre-election debate allows to clarify to the greatest extent all the features of the pre-election program for the development of a country or region (if elections to local councils), as well as to get good arguments in favor of this particular program.

As a rule, most of these meetings take place in a one-on-one environment, when two candidates communicate directly with each other, however, in some countries political debate may be of a different nature and be held in the format of communication of three or four candidates at the same time. Currently, the media has received very great development, and therefore the format of such โ€œpolitical battlesโ€ most often includes the following persons:

- lead (or two leading);

- direct candidates;

- their supporters and opponents from among the population who are in the studio of the channel;

- A number of experts on various issues (scientists, specialists, doctors and so on).

Pre-election debates most often highlight the acute social aspects of the lives of ordinary citizens, and also touch upon many unresolved issues. Unfortunately, many candidates know how to cunningly manipulate the population, promising, if elected, a quick resolution to a sore problem. However, after the elections, most often these kinds of questions remain unresolved, and many people once again vow not to believe the empty promises of candidates.

In addition to direct meetings between candidates, they are often invited to the studio for the possibility of an open telephone conversation with the public. In this case, each person has the opportunity to call, ask a question of interest or share a sore problem. It is very important for a simple voter to be heard, so sometimes with the generous hand of a candidate, a difficult problem is solved.

Listening to sessions of the State Duma, where parliamentary debates precede the adoption of important state bills and by-laws, may also be quite interesting . In this case, you can personally verify which party and in how many deputies vote for a particular project, as a result of which you can independently draw conclusions about a particular political trend.
