One of the most common dental diseases is pulpitis. What is this, most people know: for sure, many had not to sleep at night, tormented by unbearable pain.
With pulpitis, the inside of the tooth is inflamed, in which there are blood vessels and nerves. The cause of this phenomenon is infection in the pulp, which can occur mainly in two ways. The first, and this happens most often, comes from a deep carious cavity, the second - during an injury, for example, during a tooth fracture, when the pulp is exposed. According to statistics, pulpitis is the most common complication of caries.
Pulpitis classification
There is a rather complicated classification of pulpitis, and in simplified terms they can be divided into acute, chronic and exacerbation of chronic.
Acute pulpitis - what is it? In this case, patients complain of paroxysmal severe pain that appears spontaneously without any irritants. With the transition of serous inflammation into purulent pains become shooting and can give to the ear, temple, adjacent teeth. Gaps between attacks are gradually shortened, and in some cases they may not be at all.
Chronic pulpitis - what is it? This form is characterized by aching pains of moderate intensity, which can appear from external irritants: cold, hot, pressure drops. With pulp necrosis, there is an unpleasant odor in their oral cavity. In case of growth of the neurovascular bundle into the carious cavity, the pain is caused by its mechanical irritation, and the patient, as a rule, cannot chew on this tooth.
An exacerbation of chronic pulpitis is manifested by bouts of severe spontaneous pain, alternating with calm periods, during which, however, pain from irritants, such as cold or hot, is often present. Pain may occur when biting on a tooth.
Pulpitis Treatment Methods
Conservative treatment, in which the pulp persists, is indicated more often with the traumatic form of the disease in young people. Therapy consists in medically treating the cavity and
filling the tooth, as in caries. A
temporary seal can be established for several weeks
, which is then changed to permanent. Sometimes they immediately set a constant.
If the damage to the pulp is irreversible, they are extirpated - the most common method by which pulpitis is treated. What it is? The neurovascular bundle is completely removed under local anesthesia, then the canals are treated and filled with paste, after which a seal is placed. Treatment is often carried out in one step, but sometimes in two, with preliminary imposition of arsenic pulp on the open horn for a period of 24-48 hours.
In some cases, with pulpitis, tooth extraction may be indicated.
Prevention
How to treat pulpitis, in general, you know, but itβs best not to bring it to this. Prevention is extremely simple: proper oral hygiene, a visit to the dentist twice a year and timely treatment of caries.
