The Japanese Maxiscooter Suzuki Skywave 400 (see photos on the page) is a modern means of transportation in a metropolis. The machine is inferior in maneuverability to brisk bikes with engines of 125 cc / cm, but the level of comfort of the scooter is much higher. Suzuki Skywave 400 is a complete analogue of the Honda Silver Wing 400 model, if we consider these two scooters in terms of technical parameters. The difference is observed in the engine: the “Silver” has two cylinders, and the “Suzuki” is equipped with a single-cylinder engine.
Suzuki Skywave 400: specifications
The Skyway 400 is the only Japanese maxiscooter to come in four body styles. Modifications are indicated by numbers 41, 42, 43, 44.

The Suzuki Skywave 400 model (for the European market the name is Burgman) is available from 1998 to the present in various versions. Over the entire period of production, the scooter was restyled twice. The upgrade concerned mainly the front shield, chassis, brakes and electrical equipment. The engine did not undergo improvements, because its parameters were impeccable and did not leave much to be desired.

The Suzuki Skywave 400 engine is a well-balanced unit, its restrained power turns the scooter into a two-wheeled liner, inaudibly creeping along wide city highways.

The Suzuki Skywave 400 motor, the characteristics of which, together with the CVT transmission, look quite thorough, allows you to reach speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. However, the manufacturer does not recommend operating the machine at high speeds. There is no such thing as a racing scooter. Relatively small wheels are afraid of irregularities, the scooter can throw, and then skid happens.
Chassis
Both scooter suspensions, its elongated base, front wheel reach angle - all are designed for stable driving on a smooth paved road. 13-inch wheels provide a smooth ride, and smooth engine traction - movement without jerking at speeds in the range from 28 to 100 kilometers per hour. The front suspension is single-pole, with effective linkage cushioning and vibration damper. A reinforcing spring is attached to the mechanism. Rear suspension - articulated short- link with adjustable mono shock absorber. Due to the low center of gravity, the scooter is stable on course, steadily goes through turns. However, at bends of small radius, the machine needs to reduce speed, since the lower part of the body can touch the asphalt with excessive inclination. Affected by insufficient ground clearance.
Comfort
Suzuki Skywave 400 is equipped with a soft double seat, based on polyurethane filler. The saddle is reinforced with steel springs in order to maintain shape and give elasticity. The configuration is complicated, the seat for the passenger is less than the driver’s one, however trips over short distances leave a favorable impression of comfort.
For ease of landing and ergonomics, Skyway is in first place among all Japanese scooters and motorcycles. However, the adaptation of the machine to the Japanese consumer is felt, everything is as if designed for small growth. A man above 180 centimeters is seated on a scooter with some uncertainty. However, after a short time you can get used to the parameters of the seat, floor and footrests.
Skyway 400 is equipped with a low windshield, which effectively protects from the headwind and even from rain. The angle of inclination of the transparent module is designed so that the oncoming wind flows around it and an air bag is created. A motorcyclist and a passenger, therefore, are in a kind of "dead zone" and feel quite comfortable.

The Maxiskooter Skyway Suzuki 400 is equipped with a modern panel with a set of digital sensors. The round dials of the speedometer and tachometer are located on one line, two compact indicators are located next to each other: fuel level and engine heating temperature. Below, in the center, an ignition switch is integrated . The dashboard is strictly symmetrical, at the edges there are two small buzzer, which give sound signals in case of engine malfunctions or other emergency situation related to the chassis. In addition to the appearance of an audible warning, red lights on the instrument panel light up.
Customer opinion
Owners of the Suzuki Skywave 400 maxiskooter, whose reviews are generally positive, note primarily the comfortable sensations when driving on roads with an even surface, a smooth ride and inaudible engine operation. However, all buyers agree that along the road with bumps, the level of comfort is significantly reduced. The front wheel transmits through the steering wheel shocks that make it difficult to control the scooter. And the rear suspension throws up a passenger, and this happens randomly. To avoid shaking, you have to reduce speed to a minimum and move carefully bypassing bumps and bumps.
The rest of the owners do not see the flaws. The engine power is more than sufficient; its throttle response allows you to make a jerk if necessary and go ahead if the traffic situation requires it. Or, on the contrary, stop in time, since the ventilated disc brakes of the scooter are highly efficient.
