Radeon 7750 graphics card: specifications, reviews, testing, review

The Radeon 7750 is a fairly productive graphics card, even by the standards of our days, in connection with which it is still used today in various computers, ranging from standard working machines to gaming machines of medium power. This card was one of the most popular products back in 2012 and does not lose its fans even at the moment.

General situation

radeon 7750

Due to the fact that AMD released the relatively expensive models of the 7900 series, based on the use of the Tahiti GPU, it managed to satisfy the needs of most computer enthusiasts. However, over time, it was decided to release the Radeon 7770 and Radeon 7750, the price of which would be slightly lower ($ 120 was asked for the first and $ 100 for the second), while the parameters remained at the appropriate level. Both cards are based on the same GPU, which is manufactured at the TSMC production facilities using the 28-nm process technology, but it is worth noting that they are slightly different in terms of configuration.

Differences

The Tahiti GPU has 4.31 billion transistors, which are located on a silicon wafer with an area of 365 mm 2 . At the same time, the new Cape Verde GPU has 1.5 billion transistors on a plate with an area of 123 mm 2 . In the most complete configuration, which was implemented in the device 7770, this graphics processor provides for the presence of ten computing units, in each of which there are four vector units. At the same time, each separate vector block includes 16 stream processors, which ultimately made it possible to obtain 640 stream processors based on the Graphics Core Next architecture.

Cape Verde is distinguished by the presence of four blocks of raster operations, which is only half of what is present in Tahiti, which provides 16 raster operations in each cycle. Two 64-bit controllers each are connected to rasterization units using a common interface, which ultimately results in a 128-bit memory bus.

Features

The AMD Radeon 7750 used an interesting enough way to ultimately get the new Cape Verde from the Tahiti processor used in the 7970. Having only 31% of texture and shader units from the flagship GPU model, as well as 66% of cache memory and 50% of rasterization units, this combination provides optimal performance, which was confirmed by studies of both the manufacturer and the consumers themselves.

According to the developer, the main goal was that with the help of the new card users could get acceptable FPS in Full HD resolution (1920x1080). Due to this, the Radeon HD 7750 1Gb, when using Full HD resolution in combination with anti-aliasing, should ultimately lead to a drop in FPS, but in fact, even in modern games at medium settings, the processor used can achieve such performance that is quite enough to launch the overwhelming majority games.

What is this map?

AMD released the Radeon 7750, positioning it as a product that is available to the majority of modern users, and at the same time the chipset allows you to enjoy almost any modern games that support DirectX 11. In addition to this, the updated Graphics Core Next architecture provides the most efficient use of specialized graphics adapters in order to solve a wide range of non-gaming tasks, including video encoding or even data archiving.

The youngest version of the 28-nm graphics chip model Cape Verde has traditionally received an additional prefix Pro to its name, while if you compare it with the full core installed in the Radeon 7770, then in this case there were a lot of significant simplifications, which made it possible to provide much less cost. The graphics core in the Radeon 7750 card lost two of the ten installed CU-units, as a result of which the total number of texture units and stream processors decreased. The number of ROP blocks was preserved - 16. The memory and GPU frequencies decreased to 1125 (4500) and 800 MHz, respectively, while it was decided to keep the interface 128-bit.

Special attention should be paid to the fact that the new device has 1 GB of standard GDDR5 memory, while its typical power consumption should not be more than 55 W, as video cards based on the GPU are not equipped with connectors for additional power. Considering the fact that the reference design of Radeon 7750, which was developed by AMD designers, provides for the use of a single-syllable cooler, this new product is quite suitable not only for economical players, but also for those who prefer to use small production systems of the NTRC class.

7750 or 7770?

Officially, the manufacturer calls the top-end card based on the Cape Verde processor 7770, which indicates an increased frequency of the GPU. This is quite important, since each vendor will subsequently indicate on the packages of their own 1 GHz video cards, regardless of whether they use the reference design of the board or a more productive model that differs by the original cooling system.

radeon hd 6790

At the same time, the 7750 has a huge number of differences, despite the fact that it has the same chip. The 55 W TDP indicates that this model does not require an additional power connector, which is enough to provide a PCI-E x16 slot. Also, due to its length, the card provides for installation in the predominant majority of compact cases.

7750 from ASUS

At the same time, ASUS is positioning this model as a device slightly overclocked by the manufacturer, however, it was decided to increase the processor frequency by only 20 MHz compared to the standard, while the memory can operate at an effective frequency of 4600 MHz, which is only 100 MHz higher indicators recommended by the manufacturer’s engineers. Since the factory increase in frequency can hardly be called significant, the Radeon HD 7750 can hardly be called top-end, because such overclocking is almost invisible in the process of launching real applications, but due to the fact that this model was positioned on the market as “overclocked,” It also has a higher cost.

If we talk about the rest of the specifications, then there are no serious differences in comparison with the reference sample in the ASUS Radeon 7750. Special attention should be paid only to the proprietary cooling system, which allows you to distinguish this product from a large number of similar solutions.

Kit

radeon hd 7750

The delivery set includes everything necessary for a budget device, that is, it includes only those accessories that are needed for the normal operation of this accelerator:

  • a disk that contains all the necessary drivers and utilities;
  • instructions on how to install and operate this card;
  • standard DVI-to-VGA adapter.

This set is slightly different from that offered in the Radeon HD 6850, but still it is fully consistent with the budget status of this device.

Extra features

In the same way as on the reference sample, a set of interfaces for displaying the desired image is provided in the form of HDMI 1.4a and DVI-I ports. Considering that an additional adapter is also provided with the video card, the user has no problems connecting a monitor, an additional plasma panel, or some kind of projector to it.

Recalling the Radeon HD 6850, it is also worth noting that the solutions based on 7750 provide the ability to work with plasma panels or monitors with ultra-high resolution, which is quite important for the vast majority of modern users, in whom such devices appear more and more often. Also, do not forget that due to the use of AMD Eyefinity 2.0 technology, this accelerator also allows you to connect up to six monitors, however, to use more than three devices, you will also need to use additional active adapters to ensure normal image output.

Pay

The printed circuit board is made on black textolite, while the design and layout of the elements on it completely repeat the standards of the reference sample released from the AMD conveyor. The stabilization scheme is made according to the "2 + 1 phase" formula using an extremely simple PWM controller from Anpec Electronics. As mentioned above, this card is not equipped with connectors for additional power, so that in load mode its power consumption is not more than 75 watts.

Many often compare this model with the Radeon HD 6790. In the case of the new GPU, the company decided not to provide for the possibility of combining several adapters in order to carry out joint graphics calculations through the CrossFireX bridge, but at the same time support for this technology was provided at the software level .

Design

The reference model of the card has a rather familiar look, since a rather similar cooler and board were used in the full-size version of the HD 6770. The cooler has an extremely simple design, which provides for the presence of a flat single-slot radiator that cools exclusively the GPU. For a card with a modest TDP of 55 W, this figure is quite acceptable, but it is worth noting that there are a lot of modifications of the Radeon 7750, the characteristics of which include a larger cooling system.

Pay

radeon hd 7750 1gb

As mentioned above, in this case there is no additional power supply, and four phases are involved in the power system. GPU power is controlled using a two-phase controller, which does not provide for the possibility of software voltage adjustment, while video memory power is controlled using two single-phase controllers simultaneously.

The memory itself is recruited through the use of chips from the company HYNIX, the standard effective clock frequency of which is 5 GHz. The same chips were used on the Radeon 7770.

Output

Like the Radeon HD 6790, the 7750 is an entry-level solution that for many users may well be an entry ticket to the field of modern games. The direct competitor of this device is the GeForce GTX 650, and both products claim to take the place of the main video adapter, which fully corresponds to the development of game content. But in fact, for their age, both of these products were too high in their characteristics compared to those technical requirements that were installed on the games at the time of their release, as a result of which their relevance began to appear only in recent years.

radeon 7750 graphics card

Ultimate performance with the lowest possible TDP - this is exactly the task AMD manufacturers set themselves before the Radeon 7750 graphics card was released. With a fairly intense load, it reaches a power of about 55 watts, and in quiet mode, power consumption is less than 3 watts, while the additional No power required. Among the 6000 series cards, a similar TDP is present in the 6650 and 6670 models, while NVIDIA provides a competing model in the form of the GeForce GT440, that is, obviously less weak cards. All this is achieved through the use of a progressive 28 nm process technology.

Thus, the card today is a very, very good solution for the assembly of budget computers. The overwhelming majority of modern games it will be able to maintain at a minimum or average level, which is already quite sufficient for many players. Of course, it is simply pointless to compare it with the advanced devices of our day, since they are created not only to the maximum requirements, but also with a future perspective.
