When is International Energy Saving Day? The history of the holiday and congratulations

A great reason to think about ways to save energy at home and in the workplace is International Energy Saving Day.

Energy Saving Goals

The decision to create a holiday was taken at the training camp of SPARE coordinators held in Kazakhstan in 2008. About twenty countries expressed a desire to participate in such a project, and therefore the holiday was given international status.

The main goal of this day is to attract public attention to the development of renewable energy sources, the search and development of new, rational use of resources.

When is Energy Saving Day celebrated?

Within the framework of the project, various events are held: from conferences, exhibitions, seminars, street events to thematic lectures and building insulation. Environmental protection institutions, educational institutions, research institutes and other government organizations participate in the celebration of International Energy Saving Day. When is this holiday celebrated?

The use of electricity in everyday life has long ceased to be a luxury. In modern realities, if the movement of electric current through the wires stops, the world will stop and cease to exist in a civilized way. And this is true: today man is infinitely dependent on a given substance. Therefore, energy should be saved, and energy resources should be protected. Public attention is drawn to this problem on November 11, the International Day of Energy Saving.

What can each of us do in practice?

Save. Moreover, you can start small: do not leave electrical appliances turned on in standby mode. Turning off the lights in rooms where you are not located will not only stop the thoughtless consumption of electricity, but also significantly reduce payments for using this service.

It would be reasonable to replace bulbs in the apartment with energy-saving fluorescent ones. They serve much longer than usual and, despite the high cost, fully justify their purpose. The service life is an average of 1000 hours, the heating temperature is low. In addition, it is necessary to conduct a survey of the living room for heat losses and eliminate its leakage.

Knowledge of the “behavior” of electrical appliances will also have a positive effect on the issue of electricity consumption. For instance:

  • When the refrigerator is turned on, it consumes more electricity if it is installed near walls, heating radiators, and heating appliances.
  • When using the vacuum cleaner, the dust container should be regularly emptied of debris. Thus, the harvesting mechanism will consume much less energy.
  • Significantly save electricity by installing a two-tariff meter; at night, the rates for using electricity are much lower.

International Energy Saving Day: Usefully

If we consider the situation of energy consumption in the context of the country, then it is pretty deplorable. In many public institutions, the condition of lighting systems is unsatisfactory. Therefore, their energy consumption is several times higher than the permissible values. In combination with other factors, all this not only negatively affects human health, but also leads to exorbitantly high costs for maintaining the lighting systems in working condition.

What can an ordinary, average consumer do on World Energy Saving Day?

  • To have a family discussion about resolving the issue of how to pay less for electricity. To bring convincing arguments to relatives with their own example, to discuss what humanity will face in the future with the unreasonable use of natural wealth.
  • Send out information leaflets urging you to save energy resources to your friends and acquaintances electronically or on paper. Competent agitation is a rather effective tool, provided that it is used correctly.
  • Draw a wall newspaper. This method is especially relevant if the child is in school. The younger generation from a young age should understand the relevance of the problem of energy conservation.

Everyone should understand that measures aimed at saving energy resources are several times cheaper than their production and transportation in the same amount. In addition, the most common energy-saving measures can be universally applied in everyday life by every inhabitant of the planet.

When leaving, turn off the light!

Since 2008, representatives of the public from different countries who are not indifferent to the issue of saving energy resources, are trying by any means to make International Energy Saving Day memorable. In 2014, for example, in Belarus, a contest for the best ditties about light bulbs was announced in social networks in Belarus. A dictionary of environmental terms has been released in Minsk. Young environmentalists from many schools worked on this ecological dictionary. Workshops are held in different countries on the topic: “Alternative sources of electricity”, “Energy conservation around us”, “Consumption and recycling of materials” and so on.

A huge number of congratulations can be said to each other on International Energy Saving Day, but their essence boils down to one thing: you should protect the wealth given to us by Nature, spend it wisely and think about what we can leave for future generations. So start with yourself. When leaving, turn off the light!
