The hero of today's review - the Dell P2414H monitor - is a kind of retaliatory step for the release of LG's flagships of the VQ and Samsung lineup with AD-PLS scan and AMVA + matrix. Immediately mentioning the price (16,000 rubles), we can say that the P2414N model does not look the best in this regard, but, having significant technical trump cards in hand, can attract your client.
The monitor has an AH-IPS panel from LG “Display” of a previously unused modification and a pseudo-eight-bit matrix, which includes a diagonal of 23.8 inches and a W-LED LED backlight at a resolution of 1920 by 1080 Px. The pixel size is slightly different from the standard and slightly larger than usual - 0.274 mm.
Contents of delivery
Monitor Dell 24 P2414H comes in an ordinary cardboard box disassembled. There are company logos on both sides, and one of them has two stickers indicating the date of production, packaging and serial number. Comparing with the competitors' counterparts, the box loses significantly by the lack of a transfer handle, “softness” and too large dimensions for a disassembled monitor.
The full scope of delivery includes:
- high voltage cable;
- D-Sub and DisplayPort adapters;
- "USB" cable for connecting to a computer;
- elements of cable management system;
- warranty card;
- user's manual;
- media with drivers and user manual.
For its class and its cost, the monitor delivery set can be considered normal, and if you purchase the improved Dell professional P2414H model, the display can be equipped with an additional DisplayPort adapter on the rear panel and a digital DVI-D cable.
Design and ergonomics
The bulk of the models are presented in black and gray, and the new series received a slightly modified stand design. Otherwise, it’s the same familiar monitor from the famous brand. It is sad that designers do not heed the views of ordinary users who crave for at least some variety of well-established models, especially since the Dell P2414H reviews are mostly positive, but for some reason, the company has not heard numerous hints at changing the ergonomics or at least the color scheme .
The LED backlight used allowed to significantly reduce the thickness of the case, but the metal stand added weight to the monitor, and in total the model became heavier - about 5 kg in assembly, while the competitors' counterparts weigh a little less - 4-4.5 kg.
The Dell P2414H black case is made exclusively of matte materials, and the build quality is very impressive. The stand, if necessary, can be replaced with a standard bracket (VESA), just unscrew the four screws, fix the mechanism - and the monitor can be hung on the wall.
The model comes unassembled, and in order to attach the stand, it will take only a couple of seconds without involving additional tools. Disassembly is just as quick - with the push of a button you can easily detach the bracket.
The stand itself has rounded corners, small dimensions and is made in a matte style (rough plastic). You can lay the cable through the central part of the stand by means of an oval cut-out - the solution, although imperfect, is very common.
If you position the screen slightly above the average level, then all the wires become visible. Competitors are struggling with these latches on the back of the monitor, but the Dell P2414H does not think about this point.
During adjustment and use, the model does not crackle or creak, plastic cannot be twisted, and the monitor looks monumental in appearance. All elements on the panel are practical and performed by five points, so there are no complaints about the build quality and materials used. User reviews confirm the review and also rate the Dell P2414H.
Ports and Standards
If you remove the monitor stand, you can see all sorts of icons that indicate that the model meets different standards: environmental, energy-saving, safety, and more. Here you can also see another confirmation of the device manufacturer - Qisda Corporation. On the case itself, you can observe two distinctive signs of the “Dell” of different styles.
On the back of the monitor is one of the USB 2.0 type ports. All other connectors are located in a specially designated area and are oriented down.
Port:
- food;
- DisplayPort
- D-Sub (analog);
- "USB" port for connecting to a computer;
- "YUSB" 2.0 for the periphery;
- DVI-D.
Stand Dell P2414H
Overview of the stand can be described in two words - comfortable and ergonomic. The maximum angle of inclination is from -4 to +21 degrees, a turn is possible 45 degrees to the right and left, and the height adjustment is within 130 mm from the lower position.
The stand does not have a flip into portrait mode, but due to its absence, the alignment is performed at a very high level, that is, all kinds of swaying of the monitor are practically excluded. The base of the bracket is made of matte plastic, but all of its internal parts are metallic.
Clutch with the working surface occurs through six rubber legs, which still have to be pressed to the table while changing the degree of view. In general, user reviews about the stand are extremely friendly and do not reveal any serious complaints.
Menu and controls
The Dell P2414H is equipped with four physical control keys and one on / off button for the device with an LED. The control is located in the lower-right part of the screen frame.
There are no identifying elements on the keys, but they are not necessary, since the buttons have variable functions, that is, each time the button is pressed, the display shows the icon of the current action that can be performed at the moment.
Display performance
The model uses a relatively new AH-IPS matrix, coupled with standard W-LED backlight. The monitor cannot boast of technical capabilities for color gamut, but for office and home use, the characteristics are more than acceptable.
The color saturation results in the "standard" mode have the following indicators:
- sRGB ≈ 87% at the end of calibration;
- AdobeRGB ≈ 63%.
As for the brightness and contrast of the monitor, then in this model there are seven preset modes that allow you to change the level of perception as desired. By default, standard mode is used with the following indicators:
- brightness - 75;
- contrast is 75.
According to the results of testing, the unit contrast ratio was 1005: 1 with the possibility of increasing to 1047: 1. The white point is at an average level and is similar to that of competing models.
Power Consumption and Temperature
The LED backlight used in the Dell P2414H model can significantly save energy compared to peers with CCFL (cold cathode lamp) internals.
At the preset settings, when the white field glows at 193 nits, the monitor consumes about 20 W * h / h. If the maximum brightness has been set, then the flow rate can increase to 26-28 Wh * h / h. With a decrease in brightness to 100 nits, you can achieve indicators of 13 W * h / h.
The operating temperature of the monitor after four to six hours of continuous operation ranges from 30-32 ° C. The model heats up evenly without noticeable jumps and drops, without creating any discomfort either in summer or in winter.
Summarizing
In general, the P2414H model deserves attention and justifies the money spent on it. The monitor does not have serious problems or shortcomings that are so noticeable on cheaper counterparts. The manufacturer, although not slowly, is meeting user reviews, adding new and useful elements to the technical and design component.
The case is made quite soundly using quality materials, coupled with an ergonomic stand, even though the model belongs to the budget series. Some will consider the absence of an acoustics mount as a minus, but someone doesn’t need this at all if there are special shelves on the desktop.
For those who like to rotate the monitor, as they like, the model will not work either: limited by the possibility of a stand, the display can move only on four sides, but not in a circle. The rest of the model is a success and will serve you long and productively.
