Islam is a special way of life that affects all aspects of human existence. It is built on the five main principles of the dogma, which are its foundation. The commandments of Islam are faith and evidence that no one is worthy of worship except God and that Muhammad is the last prophet who pointed out that a Muslim adhering to all 5 pillars of Islam will surely go to heaven after death.
The main provisions of the doctrine are determined by five basic tenets, they are of great importance for Islam. Pillars of Islam - this is not the whole religion, but without them it would not exist. If faith in the commandment is strong, then it will have a strong impact on the life of a Muslim.
5 pillars of Islam:
- Shahada is a confirmation that there is no Lord but Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and messenger;
- Salat - the rite of performing five times daily prayer;
- Zakat - payment of donations;
- Syam - observance of the thirty-day fast during the holy month of Ramadan;
- Hajj - a pilgrimage to the city of Mecca, if a person is capable of it.
Shahada
Translated from the Arabic shahada means "testimony." This is the observance of strict monotheism (Tawheed), faith in the unity of Allah. Shahada means that the Lord is Eternal and One, He is the Almighty Creator, the main ruler who owns and governs the entire universe, and there is no one like Him. The whole universe obeys His laws. This belief in God is central to Muslim beliefs. The law of the Lord must necessarily rise above all other laws and considerations, therefore a real Muslim lives according to the example of the Prophet (Sunnah) and the Holy Quran. A person who gives a testimony for the sake of Allah sincerely becomes a Muslim.
Salat
Ritual prayer (Salat) is the second pillar of Islam. A Muslim must always pray five times a day, during which he turns to the Kaaba in Mecca. This ritual prayer follows the example of the Prophet Muhammad, which he showed to all throughout his life. The prophet usually led the prayers of Muslims in Medina and Mecca, showing them how to properly pray. For every Muslim, prayer is considered mandatory if he is healthy and able to perform it. Prayer in Islam is divided into obligatory (wajib or fard), approved (sunnah) and additional (nafilya). There are five obligatory prayers in Islam - these are fajr, zugr, asr, maghrib and isha. All these five prayers are performed at different times, in different poses and consist of a certain number of repeating cycles (rak'yats). Daily five-time prayers are the holy duty of a Muslim, non-observance of which makes a Muslim a sinner, and denying the obligation to fulfill them is not a Muslim (kafir).
Zakat
Zakat is a material obligatory donation. Once a year, a wealthy Muslim must pay a donation, the amount of which is determined by his occupation, income and type of property. A different share of payments is charged on different types of property, and as for cash payments, a chaff in the amount of 2.5% is donated from them.
Syam
Syam or Uraza - fasting in the holy month of Ramadan. The essence of fasting is to worship the Lord by abstaining from drinking, food and intimacy, and all that can interfere with a person's pious behavior during daylight hours for 30 days.
Hajj
Hajj is the last of the 5 pillars of Islam. It means a pilgrimage to the city of Mecca. The most important pilgrimage site is the Kaaba, which is the heart of the city. Hajj is obligatory only for those who financially and physically can afford it. Pilgrimage takes place once in a lifetime.
The above 5 pillars of Islam are central to the life of every Muslim, their whole life is built on them. These commandments are not listed in the Qur'an, but they were in the tradition and life of Muhammad, therefore most Muslims agree with them. The five pillars of Islam are acts that are the foundation of faith and encompass both its aspects and aspects of ritual worship.
