Do-it-yourself wireless charging: working principle, sequential assembly steps

Since no one has yet invented the eternal source of energy, you have to regularly recharge the batteries of cell phones and various digital gadgets from the mains. It is not always possible to do this in the usual way through a wire and an outlet. Some advanced companies have already begun to release models that can be recharged by simply being on the site of a wireless device. According to their example, “do-it-yourselfers” do not stand aside, but try to improve even some button phones.

New? No, the long-known "old"

To understand how wireless charging works for the phone, you need to remember Nikol Tesla and his way of transmitting energy from a distance. With the help of a device operating by the method of magnetic induction, he managed to provide an entire staff with an electric current more than 100 years ago.

How is it used now? The charger has a built-in coil, which is the creator and transmitter of the magnetic field to the antenna of the device. The receiving circuit is a coil laid in a flat spiral, located directly under the phone cover. Electromagnetic radiation occurs only after the receiver is placed in the transmitter field. Then, through capacitors and a rectifier, energy is applied to the battery.

First, let's talk about the downsides of using the device

Can there really be negative aspects to such a wonderful invention? It turns out there are several:

  • it is not known how high-frequency pulses affect human health;
  • low efficiency in energy transfer in this way is noted;
  • a couple of extra hours increases the time of a full charge;
  • if at every opportunity, without waiting for the battery to be completely zeroed, to lay your phone on the charger, the working capacity of the battery will quickly decrease;
  • if the circuit, by which the DIY wireless charging is assembled, is not completely correct or the wrong components are used, the battery may overheat, which is “not good”.

Instructions for the modification of the "button"

The input for connecting the charging wire on the old phone does not work? Now this is an easily solved task! A little more than a meter of thin copper wire is taken and wound into a flat coil of 15 revolutions. So that the spiral retains its shape, it is fixed with superglue or double-sided tape, leaving a couple of centimeters of wire for soldering the contacts. With the phone’s charging jack, one end of the coil is connected through a pulse diode, the other through a capacitor. Do-it-yourself wireless charging is not a joke, but the use of the laws of physics.

To make a transmitting circuit, turns of 1.5 cm of copper wire are laid around a circle with a diameter of 10 cm. The winding is fastened with electrical tape or tape, leaving both ends of the wire free. From thinner copper for the transmitter, 30 revolutions are wound in one direction. The circuit is closed by a field-effect transistor and a capacitor. Do-it-yourself wireless charging is ready: if you put the phone with the receiver under the cover upside down inside the transmitting ring, the battery will begin to receive energy.

Universal Wireless Charging for Phone

Laptops and movie cameras, cameras and tablets - all these devices require constant power. Moreover, it is very inconvenient to store at home or carry with you a whole set of several different wires. To get rid of this inconvenience, some time ago, several leading global manufacturers of mobile communications equipment agreed to maintain a common standard in the use of chargers.

Gadgets that support this feature are marked with the Qi logo. It is planned to equip cafes, libraries, and other public places with such technical equipment. IKEA is developing furniture samples in which wireless charging will be built into the work panel. With your own hands, you will only need to put the phone or laptop in the designated place (at night or at lunch time), as energy begins to flow.

Will the smartphone and iPhone also have to be disassembled?

Wireless charging for Samsung is by far the most unusual, as it is a functional computer monitor that supports standard operating systems. Installing this device allows you not only to free the work surface from extra wires for mobile phones, feeding them at a distance: when the gadget is placed on its site, charging starts automatically, and on the monitor that supports the universal Qi standard, the green LED lights up.

Not so long ago, the inventors of Nikola Labs demonstrated one of the covers. This wireless charging for iPhone is able to accumulate uselessly wasted radio frequency radiation of Wi-Fi signals, converting it into energy. Thanks to this wonderful cover, the smartphone’s working time is extended by almost a third.
