We all know about the quality of domestic roads. Many European cars in the Russian market come with reinforced suspension elements. This is dictated by the conditions in which she has to work. It consists of ball bearings, which serve to ensure the suspension travel, as well as turning the wheels in the right direction. Over time, the hinge that is installed inside wears out, a backlash appears, developing into a knock. It, in turn, can cause a serious accident, since the finger is simply pulled out of the saddle under the action of spring forces.
Replacing the ball joint is not too complicated, but it requires some skill, skill, and a small set of tools. Of course, you can simply pay in a car service, but you donβt always have free money for it, and it happens that you have to do it right on the road. In this case, the time is limited by daylight hours , and at your fingertips you may not find the necessary devices. Replacing the ball joint then becomes an unpleasant task, but let's not talk about sad things.
First you need to install the car with the front cross beam at something stable and quite high. Then, under the hood, the shock absorber rod is unscrewed, which is also fastened also from below, with two bolts. Recall that in our case the replacement of the ball joint of VAZ 2107 is considered, for other cars the procedure may be slightly different, due to design features.
After that, loosen the nut tightening on the ball. There is a possibility that under the action of the spring the finger itself will pop out of the bipod, but do not rely on such a case. Therefore, replacing the ball joint is not complete without a hammer. A few blows are made to the bipod, after which the finger should be released.
ATTENTION. You do not need to completely unscrew the nuts, because after releasing the finger, the spring will not hold anything, and it will simply fly out, and its energy is very large. In addition, this can damage the lever. To compress the springs, special ties are used that are installed on both sides of the coils. Then they are twisted and the spring is compressed. It is still worth it to be careful, because the screeds can slip off, and it will quickly unclench, and the consequences can be most dire.
After that, the ball joint is replaced. Next, install everything in the reverse order. Here, too, do not forget about security. You also need to think about an assistant, because to perform such work alone is problematic. We will not consider the scenario of the reasons why ball replacement may be required. VAZ 2107 does not differ in suspension design from other cars of the Soviet and Russian "classics", so this instruction applies to all rear-wheel drive cars of this brand.
