Temple in Letovo: a story from creation to the present day

The creation of the temple in Letovo has a deep history and is directly connected with the village itself. It is not known for certain when the village was erected, but as historical records say, it was formerly called Glukhovo and belonged to the famous boyar husband Vasily Vasilyevich Buturlin. As early as 1654, this aristocrat took the oath to the Russian Tsar Alexei.

Beginning in 1701, Letovo, together with the church, passed into the power of Nikita Ivanovich Buturlin, the nephew of Igor Ivanovich. After that, possession passed into the hands of his sister, Princess Anna Dolgorukova, who sold it to the clerk Ivan Autonomy.

The clerk sold his possessions to one of the most famous state workers of his time - Senator Ivan Bibikov, and his son had already built a temple in Letovo. The stone cathedral of St. Nicholas stands to this day, collecting many pilgrims and tourists from around the world.

The whole church complex stably functioned until 1936. Over the past 250 years, the church and the temple have acquired a new porch, the facade of the buildings was in perfect condition, and the number of parishioners only increased. Everything changed with the coming to power of the Bolsheviks. The head of the parish was detained under the influence of the NKVD, and the church with the temple in Letovo were closed during 1937-1938. The buildings were converted into a tile factory.
