Initially, Muslim holidays were the most modest, few and unremarkable against the backdrop of those grandiose celebrations for which the Christian religion was famous . Perhaps in those days it happened because Islam was and remains the youngest of the world's religions. The Prophet Muhammad argued that by celebrating any triumph, a person joins the religion from which it originates. That is why all Muslims were strictly forbidden to hold such events.
However, people soon became homesick, and Muhammad determined the Muslim holidays, which were fixed in Islamic dogmas, and are valid to this day. It should be noted that such events were not bright ceremonies that are so familiar to our world. Rather, they can be compared with moments of worship of Allah, with prayers and requests to the Muslim God.
So, returning back to history, we see that the most ancient and significant holiday of Muslims is Bayram. Translated into Russian, this word means "triumph", so it is part of many ceremonies held in the Islamic world. The very first of these are considered to be Ramadan Bayram - the time of conversation after strict fasting, and after it Kurban Bayram - the triumph during which sacrifices are performed in the name of Allah.
Modern Muslim holidays have expanded their list a little, but they have not finally left religion. The main modern triumph of the Islamic world is Ashura. It is celebrated on the 10th Muharram, in honor of the commemoration of the grandson of the prophet Muhammad, at a time when any wars, rebellions and quarrels between people are prohibited. This is also due to the fact that Muharram is the first month of the year (according to the lunar calendar). By the way, lunar New Year often coincides with the holiday of Ashura .
But at the end of the year, Muslim holidays are directly bloodthirsty. In the 12th month - zu-l-hijjah, everyone should sacrifice one animal from his livestock (sheep, camel). Such an event has already been mentioned in the article - we are talking about Kurban Bayram. It is believed that with the spirit of the deceased animal all sins and misfortunes that accompanied the person for a year also go away.
One of the most mysterious holidays of the Islamic people is Miraj. It is celebrated on the anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad's journey to Jerusalem. There, according to legend, he went astride Burak (a magical beast consisting of a horse's body and a female head). Once on top of the Holy Land, he met Allah, who granted him all the knowledge necessary for the life and prosperity of Muslims. This significant date falls on the 27th of the 7th month of the lunar calendar.
Previously noted in the East, Ramadan Bayram now has become known in some sources as a Muslim holiday - Uraza. According to the lunar calendar, it falls on the 1st shawala (10th month) and is considered one of the brightest. On this day, people depart from strict fasting and can taste a variety of foods. Most often, such dishes take place on the squares of cities and are accompanied by bright processions.
