Khrushchevs are called panel or brick houses, which were built between 1959 and 1985, during the administration of the country by Nikita Khrushchev. These are quite popular buildings in the post-Soviet space, occupying 10% of the total housing stock. You can meet them in almost all cities of Russia. Since such houses are far from new, their dilapidated wooden windows have to be replaced.
Standard size of window openings
When designing houses for various purposes and types, the size of the openings for windows is set taking into account the required lighting inside the room. This is due to the dimensions and purpose of the building, its location, lighting characteristics.
The ratio of the area of the window opening to the size of the room is regulated by SNiP P-A862 and is calculated by a certain formula. Fulfillment of these requirements is optional, but serves as a guide for design and construction.
There are also standard sizes that are specified in GOST and are used, as a rule, for mass housing construction and standard design. However, these standards are not the only possible ones and are subject to change. Modern high-precision equipment allows you to produce windows of any size suitable for a particular building.
Window sizes in residential buildings
In residential buildings, the size of windows can be different and depends on what type of building and what year of its construction. Therefore, if necessary, replace them, it is recommended to use the help of a professional meter. Only after measuring the window opening can you accurately determine its size.
Features of the Khrushchev
Khrushchev’s houses were once built in two types: panel and brick. Brick buildings have thicker walls and, accordingly, wider slopes and window sills. Panel houses, on the contrary, have very thin walls.
The size of the windows in Khrushchev can vary greatly even within the same apartment. The kitchen window is small, single-winged, in the largest room - three-winged, and in smaller rooms it has two wings. The standard sizes of windows in Khrushchev are proportional to the area of the room. If the apartment has a balcony, the balcony block does not exceed 2 meters in width.
Windows in Khrushchev houses
The size of the windows in the Khrushchev panel and brick in height and width has slight differences. There are two varieties of these houses - traditional buildings with narrow slopes and window sills and buildings with wide enough window sills and fairly wide internal slopes. Let us consider in more detail what size window Khrushchev has.
Brick houses
The dimensions of the windows in the Khrushchev brick are primarily dependent on the width of the windowsill. Their height in most cases does not exceed 150 cm.
If wide window sills :
- The width of a bivalve window is most often 145 cm.
- At the tricuspid window - 204 or 205 cm.
If the window sills are narrow, the window sizes in Khrushchev will be as follows:
- With two wings - 130 by 135 cm.
- With three wings - 204 by 135 cm.
Panel houses
- The standard height of the windows is 134-140 cm.
- The width of a standard double-wing window is 128-130 cm.
- In the balcony block , the window width is 128-135 cm.
Sizes of balcony doors:
- Width is 68-70 cm.
- Height - 207-210 cm.
Of course, these sizes in different houses and apartments may vary slightly.
Plastic windows
Old wooden windows - one of the weak points of the Khrushchev. As a result of prolonged exposure to moisture and temperature, they become extremely leaky and begin to let in dust and cold air from the street. To avoid these inconveniences, many residents install metal-plastic constructions that can significantly reduce heat loss. New plastic windows will make the apartment cozy and warm, save you from constant drafts.
Advantages of plastic windows
- Reliable protection against dust, wind and rain.
- Maximum thermal insulation.
- Good soundproofing.
- Strength and durability.
- Simple use and ease of opening.
Decorative solutions for plastic windows
Plastic structures can be added with decorative solutions. Lamination allows you to change the color of the profile. Today, lamination of plastic window - shaped windows under a tree has gained particular popularity. In order to avoid prying eyes, you can resort to tinting glasses. The use of stained-glass windows and layouts will help turn windows into a work of art.
Dimensions of plastic windows
As a rule, the size of the windows can be any, because modern production and equipment can provide customers with the desired product. The standard size of the produced window blocks for houses of this type:
- The window is double-leaf: width - 131 cm, height - 152 cm.
- Balcony opening: 152x152 cm.
- Balcony door: height - 227 cm, width - 78 cm.
- The window size in Khrushchev’s kitchen is smaller: 128x134 cm or 145x150 cm.
Plastic glazing has a number of features that should be considered:
- Geometry. It must be remembered that an improperly installed window unit will not eliminate noise and drafts.
- Ventilation. It is recommended to supplement the standard equipment with additional functions.
- On the lower floors of houses it will be useful to install shockproof glass, as well as accessories that protect against break-ins.
Window prices vary widely. They mainly depend on the choice of profile, glass and installation work. High-quality installation will allow windows to serve more than a dozen years.
