Simple do-it-yourself drywall ceilings

Nowadays, the industry produces a lot of building materials suitable for interior decoration. And among them, drywall is especially popular. It is well suited for wall decoration and for the construction of partitions. Using drywall, you can easily mount a standard single-level ceiling. Curly plasterboard ceilings also look beautiful . This material is quite cheap and easy to process. And therefore, it is not necessary to hire specialists for such work. Having some skills and a set of necessary tools, you can make your own drywall ceilings.

And these works should begin with the marking of the future ceiling, which is performed on the wall and goes around the entire perimeter of the room. Marking is done using the level, hydraulic level and cordless device. The level should be long enough, not less than one and a half meters. Also now often use the laser level. They can be marked up more quickly and accurately. First you need to decide on the distance between the new and the old ceiling. It should not be less than five centimeters. And if you plan to install spotlights, then you can still safely add three centimeters to it.

Now you need to find the lowest angle, measure the desired distance and start marking. You should get an even horizontal line around the entire perimeter. And if the markup is done correctly, then its beginning and end should converge. Now we need to decide on the configuration of the ceiling structure. Do-it-yourself flat plasterboard ceilings are the easiest to do. You can also make several steps at the corners of the ceiling or make curves. But if the size of the room is not too large, then it is not worthwhile to overload the ceiling with a set of complex elements.

Now that the markup has been applied and the plan for the future โ€œcreationโ€ is ready, we can proceed to fasten the start profile. It is fastened with fast-mounted dupel nails or similar fasteners around the perimeter of the room. To improve sound insulation between the wall and the profile, a sealing tape can be glued. Now you can mount rack (ceiling) profiles. If the width of the room does not exceed 2.5 meters, then too complicated a design will not be needed.

And these profiles are attached every 60 centimeters. To do this, use the tape measure to make marks on the side guides. Then mark and cut the desired number of rack profiles. Their length should be equal to the width of the room minus one centimeter. Then these profiles are tucked into the side rails so that their center converges with the previously applied marks. And they are fixed with metal screws and press washers. But if the width of the room is quite large, then in one row it will be necessary to mount two or more ceiling profiles. For this, special connectors of two types are sold, which are designed to connect two and four pieces of a profile.

The main structure is ready, and now it should be made more rigid, otherwise it will โ€œplayโ€ and cracks will appear on the ceiling. And this is done with the help of vertical suspensions. The distance between suspensions should not exceed one meter. Ideally, 70-80 centimeters would be enough. And to fix these suspensions should be as close as possible to the joints of the profiles. Rack profiles to suspensions are fixed with metal screws. So, when creating a rigid frame, reliable and even plasterboard ceilings will be obtained. Do it yourself under the power of everyone.

But before you start mounting drywall sheets, you should pay attention to lighting. If it is a chandelier, then a couple of profiles should be added to the place of its installation, since the panels may not withstand its severity. And if the room will be illuminated by spotlights, then the holes in the sheets of drywall can be made using a crown. And do not forget about the wiring for lighting. For reliability, it should be worn in a corrugated sleeve.

And now about how to hem the ceiling with drywall. The panels are marked and cut with a regular clerical knife. The layout of sheets of drywall should also pay attention. After all, if you do it right, you can reduce the amount of waste and save material. Sheets are fastened around the entire perimeter with special self-tapping screws. The gaps between them should be within 10-12 centimeters. A screwdriver is used to screw in the screws, and the head of this screw should be buried in the sheet to a depth of one millimeter. Then the joints between the panels are glued with a serpentine to avoid cracks. Then small sandpaper is taken and with its help the joints are brought to perfect smoothness. Now you can apply a primer, and then paint. In this way, do-it-yourself gypsum plasterboard ceilings are obtained. They have perfect smoothness, are environmentally friendly and will decorate the interior of any room.
