Misfire. How to find a reason?

Your car has lost power, the engine is intermittent, and you can hardly enter the upgrade in second gear only? In this case, you may suspect misfire. And if you have an on-board computer, you can find the "P" error. In this case, the numbers next to the letter will indicate in which cylinder misfire is present: 0301 - in the first, 0302 - in the second, 0303 - in the third, 0304 - in the fourth. What is the problem?

Misfire is a phenomenon that occurs in the engine when one cylinder accelerates more slowly than the others, thereby disrupting the work cycle. As a result, exhaust is deteriorating, fuel consumption is increasing, the car is โ€œtwitching" rather than driving.

In this case, there are two ways: to visit a car service, where qualified specialists will solve your problem, or try to fix the misfire on your own. The causes of the problem can be very different. In this article we will consider only the most common:

1. Due to poor fuel quality, nozzles clog. In this case, you only need to replace the gas station or switch to high-octane gasoline. But you should know that a poor mixture can occur due to some breakdowns of the pressure regulator, fuel pump or a clogged filter.

2. Perhaps you have broken candles - with a large or small gap. They may also be of poor quality.

3. High-voltage wires with mechanical damage or with high resistance can also cause misfires.

4. Ignition coils or failed module.

5. Low or uneven compression can lead to insufficient compression of the working mixture.

6. Misfire may also occur due to improper timing control.

7. Leakage of hydraulic lifters.

8. A malfunction of a cylinder that may occur, for example, due to a decrease in the clearance between the internal combustion engine cylinder and the piston.

How to find a reason?

To some extent, the task is simplified if your car is equipped with electronic brains. In this case, you can use autotests, which can immediately show error codes (misfires that occur in the first or third cylinder, for example). In addition, the autotester can identify the direction of the root cause search. For example, code 0300 means misfires that occur in all cylinders. In this case, the cause is most likely a poor working mixture. This means that the reasons may be the following: low pressure due to a bad pump or too high air intake.

misfire
If you do not have an electronic assistant, then you can find the reason in the old, old-fashioned ways, time-tested. Start with electrical equipment under the hood: candles, high-voltage wires , fuel pump status, compression measurement in the cylinders. At the final stage, if the misfire is not eliminated, proceed with the inspection of the engine. Remove the cylinder head cover and diagnose the condition of the directional valves and rings.

On some ICE models, the camshaft is located in the cylinder head. In this case, to inspect the valve springs, it is necessary to remove the cylinder head. Good luck finding the reason!
