Childhood

Abraham Ostrovsky born February 25, 1914 in Syzran. Later his name was transformed into Arkady. His father, Ilya Ilyich, was involved in tuning musical instruments. He himself was a good pianist. But once a misfortune happened, and Ilya Ilyich lost his finger. Because of this, he forever said goodbye to the dream of becoming a professional pianist. But in his footsteps went his son, Arkady Ostrovsky.

Despite the fact that the wealth in the family was rather meager, the father hired a piano teacher for his son. Arkady liked the lessons very much, but methodically and for a long time to play etudes and scales he was bored too quickly, and he often began to improvise. By the age of 14, he was already playing the piano perfectly. Therefore, for the further career of his son, the family planned to move. These plans hastened the death of mother Arkady.

Education

In 1927 his family moved to live in Leningrad. There Arkady began to study with Ivan Belozemtsev. But material difficulties arose and classes temporarily ceased. To help his father, Arkady first enrolled in FZU. The master was very pleased with him and predicted his career as a master of blacksmithing. But one day, seeing the old piano in the club lobby, Arkady played a waltz with one finger. Then he once replaced one of the musicians, and the club director offered him a side job in the evenings.

Soon Arkady Ostrovsky resumed classes with Belozemtsev. And he advised him to go to a music college. Arkady did so in 1930. I liked the classes very much, although I often had to skip it, as he helped my younger brother.

Upon arrival in Leningrad, Arkady unsuccessfully tried to get into some kind of orchestra. But the negotiations were delayed.
