U-Turn

Many drivers are not always able to correctly perform certain maneuvers on a particular section of the road. This is due to the fact that they not only do not have certain driving skills, but also did not fully study the regulatory framework when obtaining a driver’s license. We will not delve into all the subtleties and nuances of such maneuvers, but only consider a U-turn at a crossroads in conditions of heavy urban traffic. We will also take into account the fact that intersections can be both regulated and unregulated, which will make certain adjustments when performing the maneuver. It should be noted right away that a U-turn at an unregulated intersection is a bit more complicated, but with certain skills it should not cause difficulties.

So, the turn at the intersection should be made along the optimal path, which will not create any visible interference to other road users. This rule applies to all vehicles, and road users can mean not only cars, but also bicycles, mopeds and even pedestrians slowly crossing the road. Naturally, at an unregulated intersection, when trying to turn around, the driver must make sure that his maneuver is safe and prevent a collision with other cars that drive in the same direction as he did after the maneuver. As a matter of fact, this is the whole difficulty, since at a regulated intersection almost all the main traffic flows are indicated by traffic lights. But not always ...

Before a U-turn, the driver must timely take the left lane, turn on the left flashing light, skip oncoming traffic and possible pedestrians, and then complete the maneuver. At the same time, it is not at all necessary to go to the middle of the carriageway, since a long line of cars may appear behind you, wishing to turn left, but not turn around. You need to think in advance about the turn at the intersection and choose a path so that you do not go into adjacent lanes in the perpendicular direction. Such a maneuver can attract the attention of traffic police, who do not always succeed in proving their case. Although the situations are completely different, and police officers may also make mistakes, they rarely recognize their mistakes very rarely — almost never.

We go further. Each driver must clearly understand that, having sat behind the wheel of his car, he already becomes a potential offender, because ideally you can know the rules of the road, but sticking to them is sometimes not very easy. If you want to make a U-turn at the intersection, but you have any doubts about the correctness of your decision, it’s better to turn around in another place or turn somewhere in the yard to change direction there. Incorrect driver actions on the roadway during a U-turn cause many traffic accidents. Even if you just create an emergency on the road, you can easily lose your driver’s license for a certain period.

It’s worth remembering that a wrong turn at an intersection with a dividing strip can bring you not only penalties (from 1000 to 1500 rubles), but also a lot of time and nerves spent, while a well-thought-out maneuver will allow you to quickly and easily pass any intersection, without causing yourself and others inconvenience. At the end of the article, it is necessary to add that if you do not fit into your planned turning path, just turn in a little back. Of course, you may be punished by the police, but the amount of the fine will be disproportionately lower than for the wrong crossing of the intersection (the penalty for reversing at intersections is only 100 rubles). Always keep an eye on the rapidly changing traffic conditions - and you will never get into an unpleasant situation!
