Crankshaft Pulley: Removal and Installation Procedure

Whatever the car, sooner or later it will have to be repaired. If your car, for example, has a deformed crankshaft pulley and you need to remove it, then for this you have to put the β€œiron horse” on the parking brake, then use the jack to raise the front of the car and install it on special supports so that it does not fly off from the jack.

Continuing the procedure, remove the front wheel on the right side and remove the crankcase guard, if any. Then you should remove the drive belt, which, as a rule, is designed for auxiliary units. Before dismantling it, be sure to put a small marking on the belt tape, which will indicate the direction of its rotation.

The next step will be to loosen the bolt, with which the crankshaft pulley is attached , to completely block it from turning.

Such work is best done with an assistant, as he himself can not cope with this problem. Next, ask your assistant to engage the highest gear and simultaneously depress the brake pedal all the way. In the case when the model is with AT, loosen one of the torque converter bolts and try to attach the drive disk to the transmission dome using a standard steel bar and several bolts with washers suitable for this purpose.

When the motor is removed from the vehicle, the flywheel and the drive disk must be locked. After that, you should unscrew the mounting bolt and remove the crankshaft pulley from the journal. Having removed the VAZ crankshaft pulley, you should check the condition of the oil seal itself. If it is inoperative, be sure to replace it.

Installation will follow, so review the procedure.

So, for starters, you should very carefully install the crankshaft pulley on the pin. Make sure that the keyway is correctly seated on the keyway. Check that the pulley itself is fully seated without damaging the packing lip. Then screw in a new bolt with the washer seated on it.

Next, block the crankshaft from being able to crank it using the same method as when removing it. After that, the fastening bolt should be tightened, applying the force of the first stage for this, and pull it to the corners of stages two and three. You need to use a special goniometer nozzle. Alternatively, you can apply paint marks or high-quality marker support marks.

After these steps, the crankshaft pulley can be considered installed. It remains only to tighten the drive belt itself, which is used for auxiliary units, making sure that its initial direction of rotation is observed. Do not forget to install the crankcase protection, and also screw the front right wheel, which you removed before starting work. Having lowered the car to the ground, that is, having removed it first from the jack, do not forget to pull the wheel mount, applying the required efforts for this. Good luck, as well as a pleasant and long drive in your car!
