It is possible to independently attach a mirror to the wall in several ways. Today, even a woman who does not have special tools available will cope with many options for mounting mirrors. You need to start work only after understanding all the intricacies of the process, otherwise the result of such work will not please you for long, and the expensive decor element will quickly break.
Types of mounting mirror decor
Every year, such a style direction in the interior as minimalism becomes more and more popular. Lush carved baguettes have long faded into the background. Installation of large mirrors without frames in different rooms will subtly emphasize this style and the good taste of the owner. It is not difficult to fix such an accessory in the frame on the wall, it is enough to have several loops and screws that are screwed into the wall. To hang a frameless mirror without visible mounts, there are two main ways:
- Using glue or tape.
- The mechanical method (with screws, brackets).
Adhesive tape or glue
You can glue the mirror literally on any surface: in the bathroom on the tile, in the closet on the wooden doors, to the drywall, which is coated with primer, to PVC and MDF panels or to concrete substrates. The basic rule is that the surface is smooth, dry and clean.
For mounting mirrors without fasteners, use double-sided construction tape or glue. Adhesive tape tapes are glued vertically on the back of the mirror throughout the sheet. The distance between such tapes is 8-10 cm. The protective layer from the adhesive tape is removed only before attaching the decor.
They carry out work at an ambient temperature of +10 degrees. If the figure is much lower, apply glue, which is also applied to a clean and dry surface of the mirror.
Mounting the mirror on a brick base
For installation with the use of glue, the surface of the wall is necessarily prepared - if necessary, remove the wallpaper, process it with a primer, and then grind it. The walls are well cleaned by wiping them with special alcohol solutions. For mounting mirrors on a brick wall, glue for glass with an amalgam coating is used. The mixture is applied to the surface not in a continuous layer, but in parallel stripes. The second application option is staggered drops. If this particular method of mounting for the mirror on the wall is chosen, you need to understand that it will not be possible to dismantle and outweigh the decor in the future. You can only carefully break the mirror surface and remove all the small elements.
Tiled mirror mounting
If we talk about the tiled surface, then a practical option is still to use adhesive tape or glue. An original solution is to dismantle the tiles in the area where the decor is supposed to be placed, and then to paste the mirror there. The third option is to hang a mirror decor using hardware that is inserted into the drilled holes. To do this, you need to prepare a screwdriver (or drill), tile drills, plastic dowels with screws, mounting brackets.
The following are one of two methods:
- Holes are made in the wall, the mirror is fixed with screws. They install dowels and special silicone gaskets in advance, which can be purchased in the plumbing department of a construction supermarket.
- Install reliable and durable mirror holders in the form of brackets that are fixed to the wall. Such devices support the decor "paws."
Drywall Mount
Drywall - wall and ceiling decoration material, which during operation can simply crack. The technology for mounting a mirror on a drywall wall is determined by its weight. If the decor weight is less than 10 kg, use liquid nails or double-sided tape. For mounting various devices for mounting the mirror, for example, special dowels, "butterflies", holes are prepared in advance using a screwdriver. Mirrors weighing more than 10 kg are not mounted on such walls.
Secrets of installing a large canvas
To visually increase the space of the room, perform the installation of large mirrors on the wall. Fastening a canvas of an impressive size or creating a mirror surface from individual elements requires knowledge of some secrets:
- The base should be perfectly flat, since any defects contribute to the cracking of the canvas or curvature of the mirror surface.
- For security reasons, the canvas is fixed with special glue for mounting the mirror.
- Between the elements of the mirror wall leave gaps of several millimeters.
Features of placing mirrors in different rooms
Mirrors can be present in various parts of the apartment: in the kitchen, children's room, living room, corridor. In order for them to serve a long period of time and bring maximum benefit, it is necessary to take into account the conditions of the premises when performing installation work. Simple tips will help.
- In a small dark room it is worth attaching a mirror just opposite the window. This will increase the amount of light in the room.
- In the kitchen, experts do not recommend mounting mirror products near the stove, since frequent temperature changes and hot vapors during cooking will quickly spoil the decor.
- Before installing the mirrors in the bathroom, it is important to treat the ends and the back with silicone sealant.
- If the decor is in the corridor, then it is recommended to hang lamps (sconces) on the wall. This will visually expand the space of a narrow room and add the effect of diffused light.
Do not hang mirror accessories at an angle to the vertical, this distorts the image. Before mounting a mirror decor in the hallway or corridor, choose a place where you can look at it from a distance of at least one meter. Mirrors 60 cm high provide a view to the waist, and mirror paintings with a height of 120 cm - in full growth.
Mounting for a mirror on the wall is a simple matter, although it requires accuracy, some skills. Knowledge of the theoretical part, of course, will facilitate the installation process, but it is best to practice on small mirrors. Large canvases and the creation of complex fixtures should be entrusted to professionals.
