Audi 100 C4 is the fourth generation of the most popular sedan, the predecessor of the no less famous A6. It was introduced to the world at the end of 1990, but production began only in January 1991. I must say that the German company acted rather wisely and did not wait for the finalization of the entire engine line: initially there were only 2, but more on that later.
The design of the Audi 100 C4 has become much more dynamic, while at the same time smoother compared to previous generations. Corners were almost completely excluded from the general concept. The taillights began to be divided only into vertical sections, and the headlights received rounded fairings, rather than flat ones.
This sedan could not be called representative, but the exceptional build quality combined with excellent performance materials put it on a par with such eminent competitors as the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz W124. I must say, he fought with them perfectly for the choice of customers. Here, as standard equipment, airbags, a steering column, which perfectly "retracts" upon impact, self-adjusting seat belts with pretensioners, and inlaid with valuable wood species were offered.

This also includes air conditioning, a leather interior of excellent quality, as well as a four-stage torque converter, of course, this is only an option, although their price was not too high. In general, the Audi C4 was an excellent choice for true connoisseurs of German quality. Full galvanization, which provided a guarantee of up to three years for paintwork and 10 years for the body, was another significant factor pushing to choose the Audi 100. Reviews say the same thing, repair cases under warranty are almost single.
Now a little about the technical side. Among the motors you can find a variety of configurations. For example, there were already two diesel engines, they had volumes of 2.4 and 2.5 liters. Power - 82 and 116 "horses", respectively, but among buyers such configurations were in little demand. Gasoline engines were represented by two-liter inline “fours” (101 and 116 horsepower), a five-cylinder 2.3-liter (133 “horses”) and two six-cylinder ones. The latter have gained simply astounding popularity, despite their volume.
One of these units was in-line, the second had a V-shaped arrangement of cylinders. A small difference in working volumes (2.6 and 2.8 liters) made it possible to achieve similar performance indicators (150 and 174 liters. From.). But that is far from all.
Shortly after the presentation, the station wagon (Audi 100 C4 Avant) was released, which immediately became popular. The fact is that he combined the excellent dynamic characteristics that he borrowed from the sedan, with good capacity (the volume of the trunk when fully loaded was 1310 liters). It was installed, naturally, in the top configuration, V8, whose power was two hundred and thirty horsepower.
Production of the Audi 100 C4 continued until mid-1994, after which it sunk into oblivion. The even more comfortable A6 sedan replaced. Do not write off the “hundred” from the accounts, it can be seen for a long time on Russian roads, because its popularity knows no bounds.
