In recent years, original fur products, such as fur coats, short fur coats, and beaver fur vests, have begun to appear on sale more and more often. But what kind of animal is it from which fur interesting things are sewn? Maybe this is a beaver cub or a new development of modern breeders?
Fur hoax
The animal, which is called "beaver", does not exist in nature. A rodent with valuable fur is a beaver. Most recently, it was listed in the Red Book. Fur coats from the fur of this animal are quite expensive. Everything is explained by a number of reasons:
- This is a very rare animal that is facing extinction;
- Beavers are not bred in captivity;
- finished products serve at least 15 years.
The credulity of our customers has played a trick on many of them. Small entrepreneurs and some large retail chains for beaver fur issue their fur products of a completely different animal.
Fur "beaver" - what is it?
The fault of all this fur mess is Rex rabbit. "Beaver" is a specially bred special breed of royal rabbit with dense short fur. It has a gentle and even pile, perpendicular to the skin. The color, as a rule, is combined - a dark back and white sides.
There is an erroneous version that rabbit rex is a successful hybrid of chinchilla and rabbit. The first such animals appeared in 1919 in France. They were called “castor rex” (beaver king) due to their unusual red-brown skin.
The quality of this fur is similar to chinchillas, however, the mezdra and pile of rex are somewhat larger and coarser. The “beaver” production is mainly concentrated in Spain, however, China did not miss the opportunity to take its place in the international fur market. 95% of all finished products sold under the guise of a sheared beaver on the Russian market are Chinese-made
Rex rabbit fur coats .
Fur Features
"Beaver" is a fur that has almost the same length down and down hair. But at the same time, it is two times shorter than ordinary rabbits. It has much finer mezdra than that of a beaver, but is slightly thicker than that of a chinchilla. A beautiful warm fur coat or beaver fur coat is usually used for 4-5 seasons. The fur easily tolerates wet snow, is perfectly clean, it retains heat well even in severe frost. Such a fur coat will protect from a piercing winter wind.
"Beaver" is a good choice for those who can not afford an expensive mink or chinchilla, but who dreams of a nice and durable coat.
How to distinguish products from beaver and rabbit
Recognizing these furs is easy - you just need to carefully consider the finished product.
A beaver fur coat is made of several rather large rectangular plates measuring 30 by 50 or 40 by 60 centimeters. The skin of a rabbit is much smaller - from 20 to 35 centimeters. It is enough to turn the fur coat inside out, and you will see from which plates the product is assembled. Running your palm over the rabbit fur in different directions, you will not feel any difference. The fur will remain soft and silky.
The situation with beaver fur is different. If you run your palm over the fur, the skin will also seem very soft and smooth. In other directions, you will feel a slight resistance of the villi. There is a difference in mezdra. If you rub the beaver skin in your hands, you will feel how it crunches. In a beaver, it always remains soft.
Fur coats made of “beaver” fur resemble a sheared mink in appearance , although it can be mistaken for a chinchilla by touch. This fur is not inferior to a beaver in its ability to keep warm. It is extremely lightweight, which is undoubtedly its advantage. Recently in Russia, too, began to breed such an animal as a "beaver." This allowed us to organize the production of clothes, so today such fur is already quite widely represented in our market.
