In the history of mankind, there are many prominent personalities whose actions have caused events on a global scale. Some of them are Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, Napoleon, Joseph Stalin, Jesus Christ ... The last name remains a subject of heated debate today. Some consider him an impostor, others - an outstanding personality, and some see him as a person of divine nature or even God himself. So what kind of person was that? And did he even exist as a real historical person?
First, we’ll look at how the story of Jesus Christ is interpreted in the Bible itself, as this is the main source from which you can get the necessary information about it. So, he is a direct descendant of King David, once the monarch of Israel. The tyrant of Judea, Herod, having learned from certain reliable sources about the birth of a man who, according to ancient prophecy, is destined to become king of Israel, decides to kill Jesus in order to preserve his power and the power of his descendants. To do this, he gives the order to kill all newborns in the town where Christ was to be born. But his parents find out about the impending disaster and run away from the country. They return to their homeland after the death of Herod. Growing up, Jesus masters the craft of his father, becomes a good carpenter and thereby earns his living. He grew very capable, quickly absorbed knowledge, became interested in the religion of his people, and already at the age of 12, during the arrival of his family in Jerusalem, he had discussions with representatives of the clergy.
The life of Jesus Christ becomes very eventful from the moment when he was baptized by the popular preacher John the Baptist. From this moment begins his missionary and educational activities. He finds his first twelve students, who become his main followers, transfers part of his abilities to them. He performs many miracles, heals the seriously ill and even resurrects the dead. Preaching a new creed, the number of his followers is growing rapidly. Understanding that his activity is a threat to their authority, religious leaders conspire against him. A protege of the Roman emperor in Judea, which was then part of the Roman Empire, Pontius Pilate tries to justify this man, but the Jewish clergy exerts strong pressure on him. Then, succumbing to blackmail and wishing to warn of a possible rebellion, he agrees to the execution of the Messiah. Jesus, tormented by torture, is crucified on the cross (or, according to some other sources, on an ordinary pillar without a crossbeam). His body lay in the tomb for three days, and then disappeared. According to the Bible, the life of Jesus Christ was given for atonement for human sins. After his death, he appeared several times to his students.
So, we very briefly looked at the life of Jesus Christ based on biblical sources. Now it is worth mentioning the possible evidence of the reality of the Messiah, indirect and direct. The oldest papyrus fragment with text from the New Testament dates from about 125-150. ad. Also found were “Qumran scrolls” with evangelical text. This archaeological find is already sweeping away the speculation about the late writing of the New Testament. The method of executing Christ is historically reliable, which is confirmed by the finds of the remains of the executed. Pontius Pilate, who was forced to consent to the killing of the Redeemer, is not a mythical character, but a real person. His name remained on the wall of the Roman theater, discovered during excavations in Caesarea. He was called the prefect (and not the procurator, like his successors) - it is this position that is mentioned in the gospels of the apostles. In the “Jewish Antiquities” of Josephus, one can find a passage in which Christ is described as “a wise man leading a virtuous lifestyle,” and also partially confirms what was written in the Gospel. In another place of the same work there is a description of the execution of Jacob, a relative of Jesus. In addition, in the writings of authoritative Roman scholars - Suetonius, Pliny and Tacitus - this man is also mentioned, along with a description of the activities of his first followers and persecutions directed against them by the Roman emperors.
So, the biography of Jesus Christ is partially confirmed in some historical sources. His teaching is based on obedience to God and love for people. And to this day, many tens of millions of people consider the life of Jesus Christ a role model.
