Story
Over more than 80 years of history, Stavropol State University has come a long way from a small highly specialized Moscow Institute of Sheep Breeding to a multidisciplinary institution that provides modern knowledge in the field of agronomy, animal husbandry, land use, veterinary medicine, and economics.
The institution’s birthday is considered to be October 14, 1932: during this period, the Moscow Institute of Sheep Breeding, created on 09.09.1930 on the basis of the Moscow Zootechnical Institute, moved to the provincial Stavropol. At that time, the Stavropol Territory supplied up to 40% of fine-fleece wool produced in the USSR.
A year later, the organization was enlarged by joining the North Caucasian Institute of Pig Production and the meat and dairy department of the Taganrog Agricultural Institute. The institution received a new name - the North Caucasian Zootechnical Institute. In the future, the SSAU (Stavropol State Agrarian University) repeatedly changed the structure and names, opened new departments, conducted (and is) scientific work.
