Notebook ASUS X50VL belongs to the budget series of 15-inch laptops with a discrete graphics system. This is a good choice for those who need a relatively inexpensive, but at the same time multifunctional device for work or other household needs.
A more or less optimal ratio of performance and cost is maintained by the dual-core filling in the face of Pentium Dual Core from Intel and the integrated video chip from Radeon X2300 series. The ASUS X50VL compares favorably with the older modification marked V at the end by compatibility with Intel's well-proven processors from Intel generation with a standard P connector. This allows us to slightly improve the performance of the laptop with subsequent upgrades.
Positioning
ASUS X50VL is positioned by Asus as a budget device, assembled primarily for home use, as well as an alternative to a desktop computer. The cost of a laptop today ranges from 12 thousand rubles in the basic configuration.
As a text worker and a small video and photo entertainment center, the device is ideal, therefore, you can recommend ASUS X50VL to anyone who does not make serious claims to modern gaming applications and other demanding software.
Characteristics
The first thing you should pay attention to is 512 MB of RAM on board and the preinstalled Windows Vista operating system. What guided the designers of the Asus company is not entirely clear. This amount of RAM is clearly not enough for comfortable work even in the previous generation of Windows (XP), not to mention the voracious Vista, where the specification specifies a minimum RAM of 2 GB.
Therefore, the first thing the owner will have to do after buying the ASUS X50VL (specifications are indicated for the basic configuration) is to additionally buy a couple of RAM slots of 1 GB each. Otherwise, the operating system will terribly slow down and freeze for any reason.
I was pleased with the completeness of the laptop, where in addition to the ASUS X50VL itself, you can see a wired mouse with a USB input and a pretty attractive bag for transporting the device.
Appearance
With its appearance, the laptop resembles a mixture of old devices of the A6J and F3J series. However, unlike previous series, the V line has a certain amount of aggressiveness and style. The overall impression of the design is very pleasant: a matte finish, soft bevels, a nice layer on the cover, coupled with a solid black base, make the device attractive. Sometimes, when looking at a model, one gets the impression that this is a more expensive and powerful model than it really is.
As for the communication connectors, everything is in place, except that there are not enough modern HDMI and eSATA ports. On the sides and at the end you will find: an SD / MMC / MS / MS Pro / xD standard card reader, USB ports, VGA and DVI outputs, a network interface such as RJ-45/11, an output for express cards 34/35, a microphone with headphones, Wi-Fi wireless protocol button and DVD drive.
What's under the hood
The TFT-matrix is โโresponsible for the image on the 15.4-inch diagonal, which, surprisingly, produces a very juicy, rich and relatively bright picture. Viewing angles also do not cause any complaints for this kind of matrix, so you can watch movies and look through photos in the company of one or two friends. At the top of the laptop, we will see a regular webcam without the ability to rotate - just for skype.
The keyboard pleased with its ergonomics, and the navigation arrows, which are located slightly lower than the others, were especially distinguished - convenient and original. The key travel is familiar to Asus laptops, convenient and does not cause critical complaints.
The touchpad is quite large, so itโs nice to work with it. There are scroll zones and two navigation buttons with a tight press.
Below you can see 4 LED indicators that continue to show the current status of the device even with the lid closed. At the top of the working area is a line of function keys and a laptop shutdown button.
