Political Pluralism: Basic Approaches to Understanding

The category “political pluralism” has a rather broad interpretation, the reason for this is a completely explainable property of politics itself, which is interpreted both at the ordinary and at the scientific level, also very broadly. Among this variety of interpretations and interpretations of pluralism, one property can be singled out that combines all approaches to understanding pluralism as such - the principle of political pluralism is a complete denial of political monopolism in society.

The diversity and heterogeneity of the elements of political life and the organization of society is one of its key parameters, but not the only one. Political pluralism presupposes a number of other features that are directly or indirectly related and interact with each other and act collectively as characteristics of pluralism as a political phenomenon.

For example, political pluralism sees in the competition and rivalry of political elites and leaders not only a manifestation of the democratic principles of the organization of power, but also a resource that stimulates the development of a variety of political institutions of society, which, in turn, will reflect the interests of the widest social circle of people. Such diversity also contributes to a better construction of power, it is with this model that the effective use of a system of balances of power, checks, mutual control and reciprocity is ensured.

An essential feature that includes political pluralism is the autonomy and equality of political institutions in society at the social level. Only when every member of society, despite being a political institution, will be free to make a political choice, only then will the society as a whole create the necessary conditions for the development of political creativity of the masses, the rational search for the most effective development paths for the whole society.

Political pluralism also implies the rejection of violence and dictatorship as forms of conducting and organizing political interaction between agents of political activity. The resolution of political contradictions and conflicts on the basis of a pluralistic approach provides for the possibility of solving problems only by peaceful means. At the same time, the possibility of finding a compromise, consensus is always recognized, but even if this option is not possible, the principles of political interaction remain tolerance for a political opponent, mutual respect for the individual.

The multiparty system is an institutional manifestation of pluralism in any society. It is understood as legal action on the political field within the framework of the law of two or more political parties representing the interests of any social strata of society. At the same time, one should not confuse multiparty system as a system of organization of political power in a country when it acts, for example, only as a necessary measure of certain political forces, the creation of a bloc or coalition in order to maintain power.

In addition, it is generally recognized that multi-party systems are more effective in terms of developing rational approaches to the formulation of promising tasks for the development of the whole society. Although they are not perfect. Numerous examples of the organization of political life in Western countries make it possible to make sure that with a formal declaration of political pluralism in these countries, many independent political agents are simply not able to not only gain power and formal attributes of power, but cannot even access the media to publicly express their political views and preferences.
